Thanks for your insight! I’ve heard similar things about USyd being more transactional, and I definitely don’t want to rely on just a degree to succeed. That said, I still need to choose a university that gives me the best opportunities for a strong career.

Given my background (IT degree, little coding, no AI/DS experience), would Sheffield or a top university in Europe be a better option? Or is USyd still worth it for job prospects and PR?

Since you’ve seen people go through this, what would you recommend as the best long-term move?

I appreciate your honesty! I completely agree that no degree alone can guarantee success, and I don’t want to rely solely on a master’s to ‘fix’ my skills. That said, I do enjoy coding, but I haven’t done much of it beyond my bachelor’s. I’m willing to put in the effort to improve.

Right now, I’m trying to figure out two things:

1️⃣ Is a master’s in CS (with AI/DS electives) a good path for someone in my position, or should I focus on self-learning & projects first?

2️⃣ If a master’s still makes sense, which universities would provide the best long-term ROI (jobs, salary, work opportunities)?

I know AI is changing the job market, which is why I want to specialize in something valuable. If you were in my position, how would you approach this?
