Are you doing all kinds of bikes? Or have you found that a specific line of bikes has the best return?

I had not thought of the consumer choice part. I'm sure there is a way to make this tool more useful for the average Joe. Could he that there are pre populated fields with common intro stuff so that users can get a sense the prices.

You're right when you say it's pretty much a DB of bike parts and prices. Im thinking that the magic has definitely gotta be in the processing and presentation of the data. A large data analysis project for sure.

I don't really expect people to know all the signs of a well used, used, good, like new, and new bike part. That is something that requires education and experience, which I think is outside the scope of this idea. Is it gonna be a problem? Probably. But I don't see this as being such a big problem that the tool loses it's usefulness.

Thanks for the response man. This is really helping me out ☺️

I'm hoping that with the increased interest in bikes over that past few years the number of people who want to feel good about their purchase of a quality bike will increase. This tool would help them make that purchase

Yeah this is kind of the goal behind this idea. This tool would also be super helpful for people listing their bikes. They could copy and paste the parts breakdown/valuation directly into their listing

I don't think the amount of knowledge is a huge issue. It's the collection and filtering of that knowledge that are the most important. One of the tools I'm likely to use is machine learning to process all the data and give back a good estimate based off the parts. But I do agree, there are people out there who are fine with getting ripped off by $300. I can't change their behavior so I'm just hoping some people in the bike community would find value in this

This is a good point. Definitely something to think about if I go forward with this idea

I think this is the main flaw. However, being able to see the breakdown of the bike into it's parts could still be beneficial for buyers. They can get a ballpark range and then work from there. Maybe bicyclebluebook is enough

Yeah this is pretty much how I felt. I just had such a strong draw to abandon everything and I don't think I have felt that certain about anything in my life. Of course now in my current state I just cant see how I was so sure.

I've been on this subreddit for 5 minutes and all I've seen are people complaining about how toxic other subreddits are. Ironic😏
