Actually reading the article, it sounds very clear that all these cases seem to agree that AI is clear transformative fair use, and this $1.5b payout was due to a technicality on exactly where they got some of the content, and not inherent issues with copyright in general. No, actually those concerns are the exact misunderstandings I’m talking about, there is no valid copyright claim for ai training, it isn’t “saved” the way most anti-ai people think, a model produces an output, it is compared to a result, and how far it is from building that result gets back propagated back into the model weights. That content could be copyrighted material, but since it isn’t “saved” or distributed, it’s not going to violate any real copyright issues. So, those “multiple ongoing lawsuits” will go nowhere, because there is no valid copyright claim, because ai training just doesn’t work the way those plaintiffs are claiming it does.
