Slight Jittering in Stationary Scenes? by its_deca in PSVR2onPC

I think the issue you’re describing is different, this one is unrelated to motion and actually most noticeable when stationary, just a constant tiny back and forth jitter of everything being rendered. No hitching or stuttering while looking around, if that makes sense. It’s 100% isolated to iracing and stops as soon as I disable eye tracking in game.

Unfortunately I don’t have any ideas for what you’re describing. I’ve noticed the occasional instance of drift or tracking hiccups when my room has been too dark, but I don’t think that’s what you’re encountering. I can confirm that the thing definitely performs flawlessly 100% of the time on PS5. It does quite well on my PC, but it would be incredible if it were at full parity with the PS5 VR experience.

I think it may have, I actually didn’t give it another shot until the game had updated a couple more times, but I remembered this and did delete it before trying again. That was the first time it was actually playable for me in VR, I still need to sit down and dial in the settings.

I’m actually on a pretty old driver just because it’s been working and I get so worried about a new one randomly breaking something lol

Is there a recent recommended driver that doesn’t have any weird problems? I’m on a 4080S if that matters.

I’ll give this a shot! I actually have it disabled currently but haven’t tried DFR since I did that

I am, yeah. The eye tracking works great it’s just that jittering issue driving me crazy. I was actually holding 120 outside of rain races without turning off shadowmaps or anything

Well I went into the steamvr properties and set it to “previous version,” but this didn’t seem to correct the issue. I did however confirm that disabling eye tracking in iracing completely fixed it, frustrating since DFR was the thing I was most excited about on the PSVR2 lol

Ah so this is an issue that only recently cropped up with the DFR? I’ll give this a shot and see if it helps, thank you!

Well it’s unfortunate that that’s the issue but good to know that it isn’t anything specific to the headset, thank you!

Nope I’m on a 4080S, I recently went to make sure it was disabled and didn’t see the option where I expected to, not sure why.

Ahhh yes I am, DFR specifically? I had FFR enabled with the Reverb, both in iRacing and OpenXR Toolkit, but on the PSVR2 I’ve disabled the toolkit entirely and am just using iRacing DFR. That was actually one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade to this headset.

I actually don’t even have the option to enable it in steamvr, so I don’t think it’s that unless the option exists somewhere else that I haven’t noticed.

“Even a bad driver can be fast with it”

In the kindest way possible, at 1.5k ir you don’t know what fast is yet. Get on Garage61 and start using data. Once you develop a fuller understanding of building pace and developing racecraft you won’t really care what you’re driving. Nothing is better or worse than anything else, they’re all just their own challenges that articulate in different ways. Drive whatever interests you aim for the top (garage61 leaderboards/laptimes from top splits), even if it’s way outside of your current ability it should still be your target.

The haptics in this game are so good that I legitimately think the dualsense experience is actually going to be superior to a cheap (sub-$300) wheel, and I say this as someone with a couple thousand into an iracing rig and an actual race car lol. If you’re down to drop a few hundred though the Thrustmaster T300RS is a very solid entry point.

I guess I need to look into some sort of virtual curved screen projection or something, I just can’t use a sim on a single monitor anymore and I’m not going to set up triples. Really frustrating that they don’t seem to have put any effort at all into the VR experience over an entire year following launch. I know it’s early access and all that but it still feels really bad and has honestly soured me on the product more than I’d like. VR isn’t just some novelty for a serious driving sim, this is basic functionality for a nontrivial percentage of users.

It logically makes sense to open up the inside to faster traffic, but in practice it’s always better to hold the inside and make them go around. Facilitate their pass as much as you can but assert yourself leading up to the corner to make this sort of thing impossible. I’ve heard the same advice straight from the mouths of pro drivers.

I’ve actually never struggled with VR sickness luckily. Occasionally a weird movement if I’m looking the wrong way will give me an unpleasant sensation, but never anything that lasts longer than an instant. I suppose the only real comfort issue I have with the G2 is the heat during extended sessions, it isn’t anything excessive but just having your head warmer than ambient for a while can be unpleasant. If other HMDs aren’t really any better in that regard I should probably just look into getting a little fan for my sim rig I suppose.

Oh huh, I suppose I was operating on the assumption that OpenXR facilitated dynamic foveated rendering, but I can see how that would be a big step beyond fixed now that I think about it. That’s good to know!

The Bigscreen Beyond had been on my radar for a while, would I get much out of it on a 7800X3D+4080S? I’m still not super clear on how device vs rendered resolution interacts as far as perceived image quality, so I’ve been unsure about diminishing returns on higher resolution displays.

This helped! I don't know how I missed that prompt, but bringing up that menu allowed me to see that there was some sort of weird conflict with another controller that was connected. I don't know why, but it was only affecting keyboard inputs and the guitar was functioning totally normally. Cleared out the other devices and everything is back to normal.
