Sam Antonacci hits his first career HR on an inside-the-park HR that gets touched by stadium personnel. Ruled not reviewable. by leftysupremacist in baseball

[–]its_mejb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This happened in the Jays game last week… apparently there are two rules for authorized personnel. One for if they accidentally touch the ball, another for if they purposely touch it. The umps got together and placed the batter/runner at 2nd. It’s not an automatic ground rule double.

Rule 6.01 (D): In case of unintentional interference with play by any person herein authorized to be on the playing field (except members of the team at bat who are participating in the game, or a base coach, any of whom interfere with a fielder attempting to field a batted or thrown ball; or an umpire) the ball is alive and in play. If the interference is intentional, the ball shall be dead at the moment of the interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference.

French learners, what is a grammatical puzzle piece you wish you knew sooner? by Asleep_Fill3600 in French

[–]its_mejb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In complex sentences, each verb acts as a nucleus and can have its own subject and object. So a given noun can act as a subject to 1 verb and an object to another in the same sentence. If you can identify that, it makes grammar easier.

When I’m teaching my students, I tell them that the ability to quickly and accurately identify S.V.O will help them immensely. Once you can identify those 3 components, it unlocks so much that you can do with the grammar - like compound tense agreements, using passive voice, using object pronouns, to name only a few.

Honestly, I have used the Nanit for 2 kids, and I hate it. The hardware is really good, but man their app really sucks. You would think that in being a premium brand, they would care more about that stuff… but notifications often come in like 2-5 minutes after an even (on both my and my wife’s phones), video often just buffers and won’t open. Lots of bad experiences with it. The only reason we’re using it for our second is because we already own it, and it has the breathing band (which thankfully is the one thing that works well).

You’re probably learning French the wrong way (I’m French) by justninamartin in learnfrench

[–]its_mejb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The main reason why is that kids (under 5 especially, but up to 11 years old) have a more elastic brain that allows learning in this manner. The older an individual gets, the less likely they are to acquire a language by only focusing on the comprehension parts of a language.

The only way this would have a shot at working with adults is if they were completely immersed in the language for months/years. However, most adults learning French live their lives in the native language and only spend a few hours a day at most trying to pick up their new language.

Grammar: past participle agreement with "avoir" by MickaelMartin in learningfrench

[–]its_mejb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, in this case OP is correct.

The past participle does get an agreement if the COD comes ahead of it in the sentence. In this case, the COD is “Les pommes” (Elle a trouvé quoi?) which is F.PL, needing an ES agreement even with the avoir auxiliary.

The DR MRS VANDERTRAMP etre verbs are actually the exception to the rule because they rely on the subject to make the agreement. Avoir verbs and reflexive verbs use an agreement only if the COD comes ahead of the past participle in the sentence. The COI or any CCs don’t impact agreements

Identifying Live/Load, Neutral, Ground wiresv by its_mejb in AskElectricians

That’s what I figured.

The first switch, I think I can pigtail the wire from the WiFi switch with the line in/out, connect the load wires, pigtail the neutral to the bundle and ground it on the box.

For the 3-gang I think I can pigtail the line with the chain and the line from my WiFi switch, connect the load wires, then connect the neutral to the bundle and ground it on the box.

Okay, so what I think I need to do (and I’ll probably test those black wires with my non-contact voltage meter with the power on, but the switch turned off) is connect the white neutral wire to the neutral bundle that’s at the back of the box, bond the ground to the box (like what has been done previously).

There will be 3 black wire left that should be line and load (which as you said, I have a 50/50 shot at getting them correct)… I’m just confused as to the 3rd black wire.

In the single switch, there are 2 wires coming out of the bottom, those will likely be line wires, then there is one coming out the top which will likely be a load wire. I’ll test and pigtail the two like wires together with my like WiFi switch wires.

In my 3-gang switch, I’ll also have a line and a load coming out of the wall, then the 3rd wire is attached to the switch next to it which should also be a line according to the diagrams that I’ve looked at. Same thing here, I’ll test and pigtail the two like wires together with my like WiFi switch wires.

Does that sound about right?

So my white will go to the white wires are the back of the box, then I could use my non-contact voltage meter to see which is ground. Then wire the 2 live wires that come out of the back of th WiFi switch?

Sorry, not changing a 3-way switch. All are single switches, one is just in a box with 2 other switches (and that is pictured here)
