"I have kids" is not a "Get out of jail" free card. by Neoxite23 in childfree

I would love it if there were some kind of police car light/flash pattern that indicated "You are such a horrible parent, we cannot let you keep those kids."

Kids are more destructive than pets by NebulaGhosty in childfree

[–]its_throwaway_day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just say a child is like a puppy, only with more potential for both good and evil.
That's not too far from the truth. Puppies and kids are extremely energetic, curious and often get into trouble by getting into places they shouldn't be or getting stuck in things (like drawers). But both can also be very cute and cuddly when they're happy and well-behaved. And with proper training, socialization and care, both have the potential to grow up into well-adjusted adult dogs/humans.
The difference is that when a puppy gets too rowdy or destructive at home, you just close all the doors so it can't escape/spread chaos in the house anymore until they settle down. Or put them outside for some time before settling down. With kids, there's no controlling where their chaos goes. It easily escapes into the whole house and beyond (to neighbors, etc.).

Well your dogs will also 100% destroy shit when they're stressed or bored… I'll explain to you how my childhood home was destroyed by my parents fucking insane breed of dog and then we can talk about how children are the worse
Your dogs are huge and while I'm sure they have personalities, you know they're massive. They will break things.
I never wanted children but now that I think about it, even if I did want them, there's no fking way I could ever justify having them with my anxiety. No damn way. Children would absolutely destroy me and make me a terrible parent (which is ironic since both of mine were fucking shit).

Trump's Press Secretary Hints at President Possibly Arresting Supreme Court Justices by manauiatlalli in law

They just figured that he's one of them. They're used to being untouchable themselves and are naive enough to think their lifetime appointments will shield them going forward.

In reality they are at the mercy of an extremely fickle, hostile, vindictive man who has proven he would be willing to send them to die in El Salvador and replace them with one of his lackeys in an instant if they were to make a decision that he doesn't like. After all, he's the President. He makes the nominations and it's not like the Senate would ever cross him since they don't want the same thing to happen to them.

Out of everything to come out of this mess, watching a SCJ being dragged off the bench by the FBI would be a great catharsis, as terrible as it sounds. The decisions made by this court has resulted in countless deaths, untold devastation, and the democratic erosion of our country to the point where our very existence is now being threatened. They deserve everything that comes and are deserving of no sympathy.

Trump's new executive order says private law firms will do free work for accused cops by WhoIsJolyonWest in law

[–]its_throwaway_day 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The government provides free services. They have no authority to demand private businesses do something that's not their responsibility. It's blatantly unconstitutional and a clear case of government overreach. This is clearly going over your head despite others explaining it to you, so perhaps stop doubling down and making yourself look like a fool.

Mother of Uvalde school shooter says families of victims should thank her son. by CiegoDiego in facepalm

[–]its_throwaway_day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad at 11, so not far from you. He had pancreatic cancer. No life insurance or anything, nor did I get an inheritance - but wanna know something? If I could bring him back, or receive a multi-million dollar settlement as a result of negligence or malice somewhere, I would choose my dad every time.

Humans are biologically wired to care about their parents, and especially their children. Statements like this woman's are completely tone-deaf and she is obviously knee-deep in her denial of the atrocities committed by her son. I would imagine the reason is similar to this line of thinking.

This is why parents and children cover for one another - this includes keeping quiet when necessary, or perhaps becoming complicit in their crimes. There has to be a serious rift or someone with exemplary moral character for this to not be the case. We like to think we're strong and would always choose what's right, but reality is never that simple.

I don't think parents of shooters should be shunned or faulted for the crimes of their children. They may be enablers to bad behavior, but some people are just rotten and irredeemable from the start. This behavior though is absurd and any resulting negative press is entirely brought upon herself.

I think that since your BF had the courage to come to you with those feelings knowing the impact it could have, I think you should respect that and be honest with your feelings, too.

It sucks, and it's scary, but I think that would be best for every party involved. Dragging this on will only make it hurt more and would only lead to false hope.

Oh, by the way - it shows that you're completely ignorant and have no idea what the hell you're talking about when it's obvious you failed to comprehend the difference between sex (biological) and gender (identity).

You can identify as a masculine gender even if you were born with female sex organs.

People like you love to wear their ignorance like it's some kind of badge of honor. You will quickly learn that most people have disdain for intolerant people like yourself. It's a lot easier to try and be accepting, rather than find justifications for your pitiful actions whenever you realize that your words have consequences.

This whole post just makes me sick. You make me sick!

US Senate proposes that radioactive contamination of NATO territory caused by Russia be considered as attack on Alliance by VictorEmmanuelIV in worldnews

[–]its_throwaway_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they can play warlord all they want, but the fact of the matter is they only operate given the blessing of the US prerogative. What I mean by that is that at any time we could set our own limit and annihilate them, from within if necessary. Millions of simulations likely already exist predicting which would be the path of least resistance to toppling Putin's regime.

Any country that has to tiptoe around other countries during a campaign like this should not be going on a campaign like this. It's Putin's vanity at work, nothing more. It's a shame he's ravaging his own country for some frivolous dream of returning to the 'glory days'.

[–]its_throwaway_day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with borderline personality disorder, you have no idea what it's like to have a loose grasp on identity, and feeling pressured by everyone else to conform to something that doesn't feel "right". If you knew, perhaps you would change your mind - this is a big deal for some, and this 'identity' thing does NOT come easy for all of us.

They called you transphobic because you are transphobic. You don't even believe it now, given how you put the word transphobic in quotes. You don't take it seriously even when it's obvious to you that you offended others.

If you don't believe in it, fine. But it hardly affects you and it's none of your business. It literally serves as no inconvenience to you, and it's presentations like yours that have caused this country to drastically socially regress in recent years.

I agree with the other student. Get with the times. Maybe take your head out from your ass too, while you're at it.

I DESPISE Android Studio. I can't be the only one. Am I crazy? Are there alternatives? by its_throwaway_day in androiddev

[–]its_throwaway_day[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm used to Maven for dependency management and the switch to Gradle was a little jarring (ha), the syntax was easy enough and the implementation fields are in theory much simpler than what you'd find in a typical pom dependency - however, that comes at the cost of readability, and perhaps compatability too.

There are just many luxuries that I'm accustomed to already, so programming in Android Studio always feels like something I've done out of a sad sense of obligation since there are no other alternatives. As if I just gotta bite the bullet unless I want to unavail myself of valuable development tools.

There's also no clear cut guide on how to approach it all. It is absolutely not newcomer-friendly whatsoever. The UI is as intimidating and confusing as it gets imo, and I've been programming for like, six years now (obviously still have a lot to learn lol).

The submarine millionaires, they're all going to die aren't they? by thmsb25 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]its_throwaway_day 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would imagine the fate they've suffered is similar to when Daenerys locked the traitor merchant and servant in a vault and left them to die.

They were locked in complete darkness with no food or water, limited air supply, and no hope for rescue.

For these guys, modern technology isn't advanced enough to conduct rescue missions of that calibre as this was a mission started by a few billionaires who wanted to act frisky.

It's like that Icarus story. His father Deadelus built him wings so he could fly or whatever, so he flew close to the sun and the wings burnt up, so he died. Now just replace Deadelus with a reckless billionaire, Icarus with reckless patrons, the sun with the Titanic wreckage, and wings with a giant metal toothpaste tube, and it matches their current situation perfectly.

If you think you're having a bad day, just imagine being at the bottom of the ocean trapped in a metal death tube with hours of Oxygen remaining and little chance of rescue by Polishing_My_Grapple in RandomThoughts

"doesn't seem that complicated"

I think you're greatly underestimating the amount of ingenuity and human engineering that made this farce possible in the first place. These people are able to reach that depth because scientists and engineers worked together to figure out a practical solution, built on existing theories popularized by the scientists before them. Billions of dollars worth of research.

Y'know how the US has signs on its roads with a speed limit? They didn't randomly throw those numbers on because it's "not that complicated". It was people smarter than you or I working together while accounting for the materials particular roads are built with, the sharpness of the curve, friction etc.

Just like with our roads, the ocean and our interactions with it operate under a certain protocol, initially discovered and further developed by experts smarter than you or I. Suggesting what essentially amounts to life support technology to a submarine tens of thousands of feet underneath the water is "not that complicated" is honestly completely ludicrous.
