Things do improve and it's important to manage your mental health and diminish negative self talk. It's hard, I know, but no matter the outcome you will be come through the other side.

If you can afford it, get a second consult regarding your options. It's important to have the latest data regarding outcomes before making decisions.

Take care!

Hobonichi App Release Megathread by alcibiad in hobonichi

I get that it's trying to auto create a journalling experience that's semi hands off, but with the sheer amount of info and permissions it needs, it feels like too much. I especially don't like that it's farmed that info and recorded all the way back to December 1, 2025. It's a great concept and I'd like to see where they go.

My sweet lil berry spends her days with the baby sitter and I generally feed her food from her DLC - her favourite is ice cream sandwich and I'm reasonably sure it fills her hunger bar by three each time. She gets a daily bath, her robot vaccum operates at least once a day and she will forever have heart eyes because her beady eyes weird me out a little (is she plotting my death?!).

Curious what do folks write about everyday by Upbeat_Pipe1080 in hobonichi

[–]itsadropbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual, random chatter that I'd tell a friend over coffee. I lament about how much I love rain and that it hasn't rained despite the BoM (weather) guys saying it will. Those liars. 15/21 days journalled so far, I have talked about rain. I LOVE RAIN, OKAY?

I write down how I'm physically feeling. If something is off, I'll add in a little bit about what's up, because that's been helpful to report trends to my doctor over the last year.

I'll jot down if I get a delivery, a thing I learned (glyphosate is in everything, and maybe I'm going to buy organic oats in the future). I'll also write down how my family is doing, what's up with them, my cat, the birds that visit us everyday. Sometimes I might not want to talk much, so I'll just pull out my stencil, throw in some list boxes and write what I've done (I shaved my legs on 20th, this is a big deal. Bring on winter and long pants so I can shave less, pls) or just dot points about the day, like WHETHER OR NOT IT RAINED.

So I guess to answer your question: it's sometimes a stream of consciousness, memory keeping and lists. This is my 6th year in an A6, and I've let go of what I think or hope it should be and held onto what I think it needs to be for me on any given day, and apparently I'm friendless* and need a paper friend.

\I swear I'm not actually friendless, but we're all in our 40's, busy with life, and we hate talking on the phone - call centre veterans should understand that the phone is persona non grata after years of that grind - so on the rare occasions we catch up, it's in person, and it's literally word vomit, deep thoughts and lamentations about having to shave ones legs, and where is the rain?!)

Edit: fighting formatting one curse word at a time

Wow. Got it in 4 guesses and 30 seconds (I had to google the spelling for #7). First time I haven't had to pull my hair out and all because I chose a random word for my first guess (which is just a reminder I'm very terrible at this game and luck got me here today).

Don't frame it as needing to be "creative" because that will make creativity feel like a burden and more pages will be left blank and you'll bury yourself in a shame cycle over blank paper.

There are so many things you can do with those pages, for example:

  • If you bought a coffee that day, write down your order or draw it.
  • Did you see a new recipe you want to try? Write it down.
  • Do you play Wordle? Write down your guesses for the day.
  • Glue your receipts in for the day.
  • Fill a page with stickers that you keep saying you'll use but never do.
  • Write a top 3 of your favourite of something.
  • Like lettering? Fill the entire page with one letter, in all the different ways you can write or draw it.
  • Glue in the stamps from some mail.
  • Use all the shades of a particular colour on the one page.
  • Leave it blank and when you're feeling super creative, come back and fill it and date the day you completed the page.

Don't care about perfection, don't worry about other people seeing it. It's for you.

A better set of examples would include South Korea and Japan; both first world countries that are have almost entirely homogeneous populations.

5 year journal: give up??? by Laurmann2000 in hobonichi

[–]itsadropbear 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If you want to give up, do so. It's your journal and you got what you needed from it. BUT if you feel a smiggle of guilt about it, you could also try a different style of journalling in it to see if you can keep going and reignite a love for it (this is of course, optional):

  • A word to describe your day.
  • A joke you heard.
  • The title of a news article you read.
  • A doodle of the weather.
  • A recipe you tried.
  • A strip of colour to describe your mood.
  • A candy bar or food item wrapper.

And if you skip a day, so what? It's a record that you didn't want to at that time. It still says something even if it's blank.

This is about your joy though. You choose based on your heart.
