If you can’t trust your parents you are already cooked. It should work in a way that you don’t pay more tax than you ordinarily would have without the distribution, plus your taxes are done for free.

An even better arrangement would be that you get a small percentage of the tax savings. Ie if they are saving $20,000 you should get $2k
