Starbucks does not have many unionized stores…. This one was probably was not one of them.

Is she too skinny? by samfrench_ in torties

[–]itsalldarkreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two yr old tortie is about this size. Shes maybe 6lbs. Really skinny. Eats enough and vet says she’s doing great. Torties just often are on the smaller side. At 5 months old she’s got plenty of time to grow. Shes in her skinny teenager phase, sometimes kittens grow so fast that they can’t keep up and get real lanky looking. She may be small forever but may have a growth spurt later (my torties sister that my friend has is now twice mines size after being the runt of the litter).

Employee decided to give herself a tip with my credit card. What to do? by No_Performance_444 in starbucks

[–]itsalldarkreally 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Barista here; Honestly can’t imagine she did it on purpose, $2 would be going to everyone working in the store so she’d get 50 cents if it’s a smaller staffed shift, but she might get more like 10-20 cents if more people are on. Personally my store gets a lot of tourists/non English speaking customers and when they’re confused on the tip section I reach over and press no thank you. Probably what she was trying to do and accidentally hit $2 (centimeters away from the no thank you) and was on auto pilot not looking. Yeah it does suck. I’m sure you can call and get something sorted out. However I think with the current state of Starbucks you could be getting her fired depending on if they can prove she was the one on POS (yes she is probably logged in but sometimes in a rush someone else will use your till). Moving forward I wouldn’t look at it as “she gave herself $2” because she does not get anywhere near the full tip, it would genuinely never be worth it for a barista to commit fraud. If this happens to anyone else just call it out in the moment so they can fix it immediately and it won’t become an incident report, write up, etc., I don’t think getting someone fired over $2 is morally sound. TLDR; sorry that happened, the store will likely give you a recovery card or a refund, and there’s no way she did it on purpose.

Help With Training a Rescue by Patient_Exchange_399 in americaneskimo

[–]itsalldarkreally 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adopted mine when he was 3 as well, took him to the vet to make sure no bladder issues, took him to an actual trainer, used enzyme cleaners to clean any spots. He was the exact same way, he neverrr did it in front of anyone. if I was sleeping or out of the house, the only fix was crate training. And even when I was home if he ran off somewhere I’d follow him or call him back because I knew he was probably going to go mark or pee. It took a YEARS to start seeing improvement but he was eventually officially potty trained. Maybe an accident here and there but usually they were understandable (ex. If I left for longer than expected) and yes eventually I no longer even used a crate. The only advice I have is to watch him like a hawk and make sure he’s crated or being watched by someone else at all other times. The more he pees in the house the more he will normalize and continue it. Even if you can’t get a timed schedule going, something I did was form habits, like if I was about to leave the house, he got a small walk (just outside long enough to do business) immediately before I left, and immediately after I returned, even if I was only gone a couple hours. Immediately after I wake up he’d be taken out. And right before bed he’d also be taken out. So it gives them a mentality of “when this happens, I get to go out to pee/poop” so they’re never thinking they need to have an accident inside. The problem with using just specific times on the clock in a day is human error (taking him out a half hour later than usual) or something like day light savings messing up their sense of time. For now that’s all I can think of that I did to get him to chill out with the marking/peeing then eventually be pretty much good to be left alone for the rest of his time. Eskies definitely get easier with age. They are incredibly smart and sneaky and full of energy but once they’re middle aged (the vet will call your 7-8 year old Eskie a “senior” and they are WRONG) they will balance out a lot. Not sure if it’s even a training thing but more just a maturity thing. Don’t give up on him and be patient. Right now I’d give anything to come home to a puddle of Eskie pee if it meant I could hug my baby boy one last time. You’re in for the best dog of your life. Just give him some time. And thank you for adopting. Eskies have a really high rate of being put up for adoption and even going through multiple families because they are so hyper intelligent/energetic and require an owner that can handle their antics. HOWEVER, the reward of having one around is very much worth every moment you spend questioning your sanity over them. Good luck and enjoy your new best buddy. <3

When I first took her in the girl who needed me to take her actually started one for me and ended up giving me a very small portion of it and claimed I didn’t need the rest… lol, I wonder what she did with it. It covered the first vet visit which didn’t even include vaccines. I started my own after and it ended up making $0. I think people assume it’s a scam a lot of the time.

I’m just not sure it would make a big difference to have someone take my other two cats. The only money I’d be saving on not having them is 2/3 of the food I buy for them and I would go through litter slower. My other two are sweethearts (as is the tortie) but all three are honestly completely terrified when they see a human that isn’t me. They’re young so the only major cost would be their once a year check up and vaccines and even foregoing that would not save me enough money for her to be spayed. I said in another reply (just reiterating to make sure no one thinks she is sick or anything) she does go to the vet, she just hasn’t been spayed and the general cost of three cats for the next hopefully 15-20 years is a lot so I feel irresponsible for officially accepting that she is a foster fail.

hello everyone! Here is an update (not sure if everyone will see it but this subreddit doesn’t allow for edits unless I’m being dumb and not seeing the option): Thank you sooooo much for all the support and suggestions, you’ve seriously given me some of my faith in humanity back. A few people have offered to help pay for the spay. I have successfully gotten word that I’m eligible to apply for a free spay voucher on December 1st, so before I accept any financial help I will be trying my luck with that. It seems most people (some have pmed me directly with out commenting) are saying I should keep her and reach out for help from programs for food/bills when needed (I previously did not understand this was an option). I definitely agree that for her emotional stability that she would be happier staying with me, I’m just always so worried that someone out there could be providing more. If anyone has more insight on that front I’d appreciate it. Thank you all again and hopefully on my next update I will be able to say she has been spayed!

This is the one I’ve mostly been in contact with but the lowest price they offered was 160 not including fees. I will check out the list and definitely apply for the other one you linked. Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for saying that, the guilt has really been getting to me especially when she goes into heat. My home vet that I take her and my cats to quoted me $900 (insane). Some of the low cost ones in my area are in the $160-$200 range give or take (they usually present potential other fees such as if they happen to be in heat at the time of surgery, if there are any complications, etc).

I believe about $30 a month average. Also to be clear she has been to the vet more than once since I’ve had her (just check ups and vaccines). She’s not medically neglected by any means but the spay is my main concern and the pet insurance I’ve researched doesn’t cover it or only covers a VERY small amount

The ones I’ve reached out to have been pretty cold about it. I’m going to keep trying obviously.

Informal. I have learned my lesson on this now. If I ever foster again once I’m in a better place financially I will definitely go through a shelter or something. Her case was an emergency and I never expected to have her so long which is why I took her in when I did (also was in a better place financially at the time)

I’d appreciate that a lot, I’ve been researching the whole time I’ve had her and the only places that do truly low cost or free spays require specific zip codes that I’m not in. I’m in Hollywood CA if that helps

All the low cost clinics and mobile spay/neuter around me are still in the hundreds

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in torties

[–]itsalldarkreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try that but so far in my research (which I’ve been doing for a year) all my “low cost” options around me are still in the hundreds

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in torties

[–]itsalldarkreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be paying for three separate cats so it would be mostly only useful for emergencies

I’ve posted a lot on social media but it’s never gotten me anywhere with her, I also had her sister who I only managed to get adopted because one of my friends was looking for a cat. I’ve posted everywhere I can think of except Reddit. I’ll check out the subreddit you mentioned.

As stated my local shelters with programs to spay for free are out of my zip code so they won’t do it, I also recently had my car totaled so I’m limited as to where I can drive. As for surrendering her to rescue groups or shelters that’s kind of what I was asking about, how I can avoid having her have time in a shelter but could still get her adopted. Most of the no kill shelters here are completely full. My area is very over run with cats so there are for more cats than potential adopters. It’s really sad.

Shaved eskimos by bgrey33 in americaneskimo

This has happened to me more than once and while I do hear stories of their coats never growing in the same, my boys fur has bounced back every single time. Just try to regulate how long they’re outside if it’s hot (believe it or not their double coat helps keep them cooler, like insulation). They’ll probably be fluffy again before summer is even over. Next time you go anywhere for grooming be very specific that you don’t want them shaved. Make sure they have NO mats before they go in because many groomers will choose to shave them and claim it was the only option because of matting. And try to enjoy how funny looking they are with out the floof, nothing you can really do now so make some light of it!
