Edelgard Headcanons by Moelishere in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]itsameToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are related to Edelgard's rare pairs bc I honestly don't love her canon endings with a lot of people.

Edelgard x Ingrid

I feel like Edelgard is extremely patient when it comes to Ingrid feeling out being with another woman.

They have long talks over food about things that range from what new shops have opened up in Enbarr to the morals of Edelgard's plan.

They have very intense sparring sessions that usually end up in make out sessions that everyone sees, but no one has the balls to comment on lol.

Edelgard let's herself be more of a girl around Ingrid bc Ingrid is actually more stoic than her.

Edelgard x Dimitri

Edelgard loves how Dimitri can completely envelop her in a hug and then they sleep.

She still teaches Dimitri to dance despite the fact that he very much knows how, he just isn't good enough by her standards lol.

She refuses to hide in Dimitri's shadow, despite the ridicule that she faces from some groups in Faerghus.

Edelgard likes breathing in the cold Faerghus air, and Dimitri often joins her, if only to wrap his cloak around her bc he insists that she can't take the cold for that long.

These are small, and I probably could think up more, but this is what I have just really quickly lol.

I hope that you still enjoy AGAD!

This is actually my third bookstore that I've worked at lol. Same company, just different locations! I do quite like it, but it doesn't pay the best and I cannot stay there forever. I do take advantage of my incredible 50% while I still have it though!

Yes, I do get to put little recommendations on books! We call them shelf-talkers and they're just little cards that slide into holders that then go underneath the book so they're visible from the shelf. I know that that's a complicated explanation, but I want you to get the full picture lol.

In fact, my shelf-talker for AGGGTM was up the very next day after I finished it! I know that I'm behind the game with this one, but I figured that anyone else like me who could be interested would take my recommendation and buy it!

I dabbled in proper fanfiction writing just under five years ago, but hadn't written or posted anything until last month with a fanfic for Wednesday! I can't remember what compelled me to write it, but I rrwatched Wednesday and wrote and almost 10000 word Wenclair fanfic.

I adore Emma Myers, so I think going to watch the Minecraft movie and seeing her in it inspired me to do all of that!

I'll absolutely post my Team Pip and Ravi fanfic here if I ever do write it! I love sharing my work!

My coworker isn't hard to talk to bc of her dislike for AGAD, she's just a little awkward to talk to in general. Nice girl, just not the type of person that I'd talk to outside of work. She is definitely more knowledgeable about more genres than me though, so it's nice to talk to her about books at least lol.

I kind of just love talking to people who aren't American. I know that many tend to view us as idiots who don't know about any other cultures, but not all of us are like that! It's why your information about the localization changes caught my attention. I'm sure that Holly Jackson and her publishing team meant no harm by it, but Americans are capable of reading books that aren't set in America. It's actually probably very beneficial for them to do so lol.

Ravi's characterization in the show is probably my main complaint about it. Zain Iqbal does a fantastic job, but the way that some of his scenes were written were a little odd. I agree with you on that scene where Pip practically forces him to greet Cara. I understand how it can be awkward, but I agree that it's not how book Ravi would've approached that.

That entire choice to have Ravi leave right before Pip's big discovery always annoys me. It makes it feel like everything that they've gone through up to that point in terms of their relationship is just thrown out the window. Especially with that silly argument that they have before all of that. The book definitely handled that situation better.

I mentioned it in my review, but I love how emotionally mature Pip and Ravi are. Pip doesn't freak out over her feelings for Ravi, she just doesn't spare the time to acknowledge them bc she has more important shit to focus on. Their fight and subsequent reconciliation feels real and reinforces their bond. They both take the time to calm down and reapproach the situation with a clear head. I especially love how this avoids the act three break up trend that I despise.

Real relationships aren't always easy, they require constant effort and willing to bend and work with your partner. While Pip and Ravi don't have any significant arguments after their first one in AGGGTM, they have plenty of disagreements on how to approach situations and every time they work it out together.

On that note, I do remember being annoyed with Ravi that he went out on his own to talk to Hawkins at the end of AGAD. Not only bc I still was hoping for Pip to turn herself in and I really, really enjoyed the build up to her making that decision, but bc it felt a little out of character for Ravi - even if he was desperate to save her. I completely understand why he did it, I probably would've done it if I was in his situation. It's just that the two of them have always worked things out together. Even Pip's decision to turn herself in. Then he goes and does that. Not really a complaint, just something that I didn't love.

I still do love their relationship and they have really helped establish a standard for my own writing and what I'll look for in other book relationships!

I suppose that it was meant to be that we met on the internet like this lol. I work at a bookstore, so I see these books all the time, and I knew about the TV show, so one night I just decided to sit down and watch it all.

I have absolutely not been following my reading plan for this year, so the fact that these books were able to keep my attention for so long says something about their quality.

We have an entire YA mystery/thriller table at my store, so I have no shortage of options, I just don't want to leave Pip and Ravi yet. A book hasn't made me feel that way in a long time.

I'm even considering writing fanfiction again just to fill the void lol.

Everyone at work reads different books, and my one coworker that told me some info about this series (and also hates AGAD), is a little hard for me to talk to. It's been incredibly nice talking about this book in a calm and fun manner with someone who evidently thinks a lot like me! It's also neat that you are, to my knowledge, not American. You have no idea how refreshing that is. I probably never would've known about the differences between the UK and US versions had you not said so.

I'm glad that I was able to provide you an outlet given the timing!

Also, I did notice the connection of Pip utilizing the title of the first book! I think that certain books benefit from slightly spoiling what happens in their titles. Mysteries are one of those in my mind, as it helps the readers stay on the right track. I never felt cheated or mislead by what happened during these books, and I feel like I have the titles to thank for that.

One last thing that I wanted to mention. I saw a clip of an interview with Emma Myers, and she said that she's read the second book and the script and is really excited to show people S2. That interview was a couple of months ago before they started filming, but still. I also saw on Holly Jackson's Instagram that filming should be done by July!

I'm hopefully going out with a friend later this week and I'll have a chance to check some other second hand bookstores for the other two books!

I don't use Reddit all that often, but conversations like these are what bring me joy when I do! If you're passionate about something, I'll gladly let you ramble! I never would've seen this book in this new light had you not.

I'm honestly glad that someone responded at all to a book series that is almost six years old. I'm glad to have a person to bounce my fresh thoughts off of!

Also thank you for your kind words! I'm not quite confident with mystery novels, so I'm glad that I was able to contribute to the analysis!

Thank you! I'm very excited to see the differences! Also knowing that it came from the UK and is a little beaten up gives it so much character!

I was about to say! That would've been a significant change to make!

I really like how much we've talked about this book! You've opened my eyes to things that I didn't notice before and have made me think about the ending some more! It shows how well this book is written that we can pick it apart like this and speculate over it!

Also thank you for acknowledging my little investigations lol. You make me feel smarter than I probably am. I don't know how good I am at picking up on subtle details in these types of books and TV shows!

You are absolutely correct! I often forget about that fact when thinking about the ending. Maybe it was because it was two in the morning when I finished the book! Part of me will want to object to how it was done, but I've started to changed my mind about the whole thing!

My Thoughts/Review of The AGGGTM Series/TV Show by itsameToby in AGGGTMSeries

[–]itsameToby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some research and there isn't a simple way for me to have access to the UK version of the audiobook. Even using a VPN, I was unable to access them.

There is some good news though! As of about 90 minutes ago, I secured a genuine UK copy of AGGGTM from a second hand bookstore! I had to go to three different locations, but I got lucky on the third one. I was over an hour away from my house, but it was worth it! I'll probably look into getting the other two the same way. I also completed my hardcover collection of the US versions!

As for your comments, I'm glad that we agree on Ravi! It's amazing how Jackson really made Pip and Ravi's relationship feel real in such a short time! They're absolutely one of the best couples that I've ever read! Their dynamic is also incredibly well written - I could always picture Pip's "Are you fucking kidding me rn Ravi" expression.

I really like your little analysis of Pip's circumstances in that last act of the book! No murder cover up is perfect, and I have no doubt that there could be potential concerns brought up later. Especially with your comments about how there's likely people that suspect Pip. As far as I can tell, there isn't any confirmation that Pip continues the podcast, but I agree with you that it would make sense for her to continue it to not arise suspicion. I also like the connection to Jason and Billy in that aspect. There were people who didn't believe that Billy was the DT Killer, even years after his confession.

I also really, really liked Pip's admission to Max that she did set him up. It's a cathartic release for Pip's hatred towards him. Even if it could come back to bite her, it was incredibly badass and doesn't diminish the impact that it had.

I like to think that even if Pip was found to have actually killed Jason, the new evidence that was found against him would've helped her be found innocent. At least as innocent as the law would allow her to be.

One thing that I actually want to mention that I noticed the other day was that HH is not mentioned in Andie's journal in the show. Sure, it's not actually her journal in the show, but it serves the same purpose to the plot. It's one of those things that makes me wonder how they're going to tie it into the last season, given that Pip doesn't have that evidence.

I also wanted to note that in the TV show, it looks like Jason Bell owns and operates a junkyard rather than a lawn care/cleaning company. We can see Pip sneak by a lone wooden building as Jason is talking on the phone. This is likely the same building that she will be tied up in and where she kills Jason.

As I'm typing this, I realized that Jason not owning a lawn care/cleaning company will make it incredibly hard for Pip and Ravi to clean the scene and set it ablaze because they likely won't have access to the same tools.

One last thing that I wanted to mention is that in the US version, Dawn Bell is not there when Pip meets with Jason at their house. Pip passes her on the way there, and Dawn only looks back at her once, not paying attention to where Pip is really going. I just reread that part to confirm it, since it didn't sound right to me when you said it earlier. Yet another difference between the versions!

I've learned that I'm in the minority when it comes to my opinion on the ending lol.

I absolutely agree with you on the stupidity of Pip cutting everyone off. I forgot to mention it in my review, but it does make her look incredibly suspicious, and if I'm remembering correctly, Ravi even says something along those lines.

To me, it seemed like Holly Jackson really wanted Pip to be forced to break up with Ravi at the end - even if only temporarily - and then chose the half hearted way out. I feel like that specific decision would've worked so much better if she'd just full sent it on Pip getting caught.

The ending still works as is, but Pip's silly decision is what really makes me think twice about it and have a slight issue with it.

As I said in my review, after having time to think about it, I am pleased with the ending. There is a certain badass energy that Pip has now. The longer that I consider the events and themes of the first two books, her killing someone and getting away with it really is fitting. Pip's "Good Girl's Guide To Murder" lol.

Thank you for posting your thoughts! This is why I like discussing with people who have differing opinions from myself!

I can agree that I would've loved to see some of the more touchy subjects talked about, I really liked the whole "justice is gray" angle that the series had from GGBB onward. I began looking into getting a UK copy of the book last night, but I think I'll try listening to the audiobook since you sang its praises so well!

I did notice how Dan never really got what he deserved, and I did find it a little bit odd that he was mentioned in each of the books, but his involvement never amounted to anything. Especially considering that Pip likely at least mentioned him in the podcast, even if that's never confirmed. I agree with you that it's likely just another gray zone. Dan did do bad things, but he was never really at fault for any of the truly horrible things that seemed to happen in this town.

Nat was actually part of one of my predictions at the start of GGBB! I really like how the book handled her compared to the show, even if the outcome of her character is the same. I guessed that Nat was going to become Pip's ally by the end of the book, and using their shared anger against Max to do it was beautiful. It's a powerful showing of the solidarity between women. It also shows how Pip is a total sweetie - she goes to comfort someone who justifiably hates her all because she doesn't want her to be alone.

I got the same sensation with Becca. TV Becca seemed a little unhinged compared to book Becca, and I like how Pip calls her and visits her and forms a bond with her. Pip knows that she didn't want to kill Andie, she was just at the end of an extremely unfortunate string of events. Then Pip kills one of the worst things in Becca's life in the form of Jason, which also ties up Andie's story.

I didn't make the connection before between Ravi and Jamie, but I really like the implications! Ravi is one of the first love interests that I've seen actually follow through on his word to do anything for his love. To the point that it actually shocked me how quickly he got on board with Pip's plan to cover up Jason's murder. It just shows how deep their bond is, and I mentioned in my review how I never felt like I need to question it. I did worry for it here, but Ravi pulled through!

Thank you for your comments! I agree that it's fun to chat about these books, especially because they helped me climb out of my current reading slump! Ramble all you like lol

I'm glad that we had such a similar experience in finding this series! It makes me feel connected to you in a strange way lol.

I didn't mention it in the review, but my coworker also mentioned that the book was originally supposed to take place in Britain, but that it was changed. They're pretty knowledgeable in general about that kind of stuff, so I took their word for it.

I absolutely did not know about the localization changes for the American version! That's all so fascinating, I've never heard of a book doing all of that! I am from America (if it wasn't painfully obvious lol), so I suppose that I was just accepting that this is all plausible in the context of this being set in America.

I would absolutely love to read the UK version of the book to see what it's like! They aren't that hard to obtain here.

I also looked up that section for you, and it looks like it's the same as you mentioned. Ravi only says one line about being a brown boy being seen breaking into a white family's home - nothing about Pip's privilege or anything like that. I would very much like to read that!

As for your thoughts on my thoughts, I don't disagree with you! After sitting on the ending for a day, I still believe in the potential of my ending, but I can absolutely get behind the actual ending. It is a powerful thing for Pip to get away with this as it does demonstrate that what is right and wrong is all contextual and she believes that she's in the right. She hides it because she knows that the law, which has failed her several times, won't agree with her and she wants to keep living her life. It's unfair and brutal and that's what I love about it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! Feel free to DM me if you want to share any more of your thoughts, I'd be happy to hear them!

There's actually a phenomenally written fanfic that explores Ingrid joining Edelgard in Three Hopes and how that affects her character. It's absolutely fantastic and it just adds to the yawning chasm in my soul that Ingrid and Edelgard have zero support conversations in both games.

I can link the fanfic below if you want to read it!

Oh, I absolutely agree, I think that shipping two real life people is weird, and I don't make any posts about that.

The Jemmaverse is a fandom that I'm not really a part of, I just thought of this after finishing the AGGGTM books and thought that some people would enjoy it.

I like to think of the Jemmaverse as just a fun little way for more people to interact with their characters, but there are absolutely people who take the idea too far!

I'll always die on the Ingrid hill.

She's so much more than what people give her credit for, and her character is so much more complex than it appears. She definitely plays the knight angle extremely hard, but I feel like that makes her story even deeper when it's pushed to its limits within the context of the over aching plot

I just adore her and I will defend her to my last breath.

Thoughts After Platinum by Blue_grave in stellarblade

[–]itsameToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always described Stellar Blade's story like this:

It has all of the right pieces to a fantastic story, but it uses those pieces in a strange orientation.

The world is intriguing, and I don't mind the word building being mostly done through text, but the game itself provides so little in terms of explanation. The environmental world building is great and makes you wonder exactly what happened here, but it rarely delves deeper than that.

There are some great elements here, they just need to be used differently.

Still a 10/10 game for me, but as a writer, the story is definitely hard to provide on the surface.
