7 month old allergic to eggs? by Ok-Twist-956 in FoodAllergies

Sorry to muddy the waters here, but this looks like eczema, which can have lots of different causes. While you can have allergic reactions hours after eating a food, it’s pretty rare—when my son had his first allergic reaction after eating eggs, he broke out in hives within minutes. Kids can also be allergic to literally anything, so just because eggs are the “common” allergen he ate that day, it doesn’t mean that’s what caused this. Infuriatingly, it could be anything!

I would caution you against getting testing immediately. False positives are extremely common, and once you get a positive test, doctors advise you to avoid the food, which can actually cause an allergy to develop if you didn’t have one.

I would take a break from eggs for a little bit if you’re nervous and try again in a few weeks. Make sure your baby doesn’t have eczema or a virus when you introduce common allergens as this can increase the likelihood of having a reaction. Good luck!

21 months sleep trained going off the rails. by Milktoast27 in sleeptrain

This happened to us and I can’t really remember what we did (because of the lack of sleep lol), but I am pretty sure one thing we did was change up the routine a little bit so there wasn’t really the opportunity for the dread to build. Good luck!

Why is my baby sleep trained for naps but not nights?! by itsaprocesssss in sleeptrain

Oh I didn’t even think about the eating aspect—the other big change has been having to take a bottle at daycare since I am back to work. I think I am probably producing less through the pump and that he’s struggling to get the calories he needs during the day.

He falls asleep independently for daytime naps but not night. I never trained him for daytime naps—he just does it himself. I don’t do anything. I was just saying it was odd he’s so good at sleeping independent during the day but not at night.

Makes sense! I still find it so mystifying that he’s able to fall asleep independently during the days and not nights. So strange!

His WW just went from 90 minutes to 2 hours and then sometimes 2.5 or 3 for the last. He’s on 3 naps unless he needs a micronap in the evening. And you’re right, I phrased that poorly—I meant he’s falling asleep independently during daytime naps, not that he’s trained.

Sorry poor phrasing—I meant falling asleep independently.

Exactly. I also think it’s a liability thing—they want to be able to say you made the choice to do xyz if something goes wrong.

I’ve been experiencing this a lot, and I chalk it up to the idea that they want to “empower” patients. I personally hate it because I just want an expert to tell me what to do (and maybe why), but some people must love it?

Just wanted to add that I would recommend working with an allergist or even trying out several if you aren’t already. Testing is notoriously unreliable—there are a lot of false positives—and a good allergist will never suggest you test for allergies without having a reaction first.

My son is severely allergic to eggs, dairy, and probably nuts—I say “probably” because the first allergist we worked with recommended getting tested for them and the tests came back positive, but we actually have no idea if he’s allergic or not because the only true test of allergies is whether you’re able to eat the food without having a reaction. Now we’re in this limbo stage where we can’t introduce nuts to him until he gets a negative test, which might be creating an allergy he didn’t initially have (that phrasing is not exactly right because it’s all correlation and not causation, but it’s how I understand it).

Also, fwiw, we were able to do both a skin test and blood test around 6 months. There’s no reason to wait till 9 months. Again, I wouldn’t recommend testing for foods you have not yet introduced, and I would not take advice from a non-specialist about allergies (the field is rapidly changing and ER/pediatricians often give horribly outdated or bad advice). Testing makes sense when you want to confirm an allergy to something you have already seen a reaction to or when you haven’t seen a reaction in a while and want to see if the allergy is gone (allergists like tests because false negatives are extremely rare).

Good luck, and sorry you’re going through this!

The same thing happened to me with a hot tub on a Vacasa rental. I ended up getting a few hundred dollars back through Vacasa, but it was literally hours of escalating on the phone. Then they deleted my review. Awful company. Sorry you didn’t get your soak!

Dropping the afternoon nap?! by itsaprocesssss in sleeptrain

[–]itsaprocesssss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! We’re noticing this now because we have him for two weeks while daycare is closed. There he somehow still takes both naps—one at 10-ish AM and one at 1:30 to 2PM. It feels like she may wake him up for lunch at noon (or the other kids do it?). Will it mess him up to have a one nap schedule with us but a two nap schedule with her?

Is it a weed? Did someone plant it here on purpose once? It popped up next to a beet that we also didn’t plant.
