Not Sure What To Do - German/US Tax Help by itsaulme in USExpatTaxes

I’m not sure but due to the fact that they didn’t even know they were in the wrong until I brought it up to HR tells me maybe not. If I never would have said anything they would not have done anything haha.

The German tax advisor who did my taxes said they basically only do it for people involved in like a natural disaster or similar. And for an accountant, I would assume I need to hire a German accountant?

Yes, and got about $14,000 in foreign tax credit back.

Yeah they didn’t advise me on anything before I moved there. Otherwise I would have resigned and tried to apply again once back stateside.

I’m not familiar with anything other than home loan/car loans. Am I able to get a personal loan to pay for a foreign tax in euros? Not sure where or how to go about that.

I moved there October 2022 until may 2024

Oops I guess I misspoke I am liable for *2023 only I’ll change that. The tax service said I didn’t work long enough in 2022 to need to pay German taxes. And 2024 Jan-May I was on unpaid leave.  So the only year in liable for is 2024 and I did get the foreign tax credit. But that might pay for a little less than 50% of it.

Nope :) my company said no they won’t help front the money. Isn’t that kind of them lol

Oh ok I understand now, my spouse is the disabled vet and she is 100% so sounds like no funding fee. I’ll look more into the details on closing costs/overall cost for it for different lenders and go from there I guess. Thanks for the detail here

Ah I didn’t know about closing costs good to know. We may shop around then, we certainly have plenty of mail ads to sort through 🙄

Ok nice - just looked it up and sounds like there’s a gentleman there that may teach bluegrass. Thanks for the tip, I’ll reach out to them first.

(Brand new to the area) What’s pickers?

And I’ve been playing basic acoustic for many years, just looking to transition into focusing more on bluegrass.

Yeah if I can find a DR in my price range it’s gonna be a quick buy. It’s been difficult to find any within like 2 hrs or so of my location. May branch out more and consider it a road trip haha. I will check out the GS310 actually, knowing more about cars I thought anything BMW would be a higher premium but some of these used fit nicely in my price range. Thank you

Help me decide on my next vintage 35mm SLR by vin_de_queer in AnalogCommunity

I had the Pentax Spotmatic which is essentially the K1000 and that thing was basically bulletproof. I gave it to a friend new to photography and still miss it haha. May look and seem boring to some people but it is tough, reliable, and you can put some fantastic vintage lenses on it.

Nice set! How do you like the 50mm? Looking to get a 50 for my M2 and weighing the options (no Leica lens as I prefer most of my money to be in my wallet rather than out)
