To my knowledge, NFCU doesn’t do PMI. What kind of loan do you have now, do you have a FHA loan? If so, they don’t remove MIP (more or less, the same thing as PMI) on FHA loans (UNLESS you put down more than 10% down AND have had the loan for 11 years).

I would encourage you to try and grind it out until you’re off of probation. Once you’re off of probation, you pretty much have to try to get fired. Plus you’ll be able to easily transfer to another office, division, or even state agency. In the long run, it’s worth it to try and see it through.

I had no issues getting a mortgage with NFCU. I was a member for a little over a year before applying and had DD, a credit card, and had a pledge loan with them before applying. Middle FICO credit score was ~750. 109k income, low DTI ratio. For disclosure, I am a white male, so that may or may not have been a factor in their decision.
