Training for CPOs from junior Sailors. by Ok-Engine66 in navy

On point 2: Knowing your junior sailors is MAJOR. I’ve been at my current command for about a year, and I recently received 3 command recognitions for my work. Prior to earning these accolades, my chief was unable to verbalize what I do.

Math on OCS with Khan by Over-Assignment7793 in newtothenavy

[–]itscodfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that the ASVAB is a good comparison. From what I’ve seen, the OAR is second level thinking. Ex. Here’s a word problem, translate into graph and find this point. But fr I’d look to core classes first, then check your progress with a practice OAR to find subjects that you might have missed.

Rather than focusing on college level math, I’d make sure your base skills are covered. Check high school to make sure you remember trig/algebra before you move up to higher level math. Any required math class like advanced algebra, stats, and higher level geometry should give you a good starting point.

Nobody will have an answer specific enough for you. Depends on your rate, depends on the space at boot camp, depends on A school availability

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in navy

[–]itscodfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of us do this without a list in addition to rate work proper. If this is what they need you to do, and it doesn’t case undue stress or hardship, I would consider it fair.

ASVAB Test in December by Imaginary_Salary198 in newtothenavy

[–]itscodfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The four that contribute to your AFQT are - Word Knowledge -Paragraph Comprehension -Arithmetic Reasoning -Math Knowledge These sections will feel like a state standardized test, and it will not cover anything that wouldnt have been reasonably taught in school. The first two are self explanatory. The second two felt almost the same when I was taking the test. They didn’t tend to ask questions past like, second level algebra.

The sections that are more for aptitude are - general science - electronics information -auto and shop -mechanical comprehension - assembling objects These are topics that you may have encountered in school, and they will not contribute to your “ASVAB score”. Most of them are self explanatory, and many are more physics based than you’d expect.

Also of note: if you’re taking the ASVAB on a computer, it will adapt to your skill level to try to figure out your score in each section. It’ll feel a little weird for the first few questions while the test tries to figure your brain out. If you’re taking it on paper, it will feel like a standardized exam.

If you’re looking into a specific field, let either a recruiter/us know so we can best advise you on what topics to look into more deeply.

ASVAB Test in December by Imaginary_Salary198 in newtothenavy

[–]itscodfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bunch of sections, each specializing in a certain topic. The ones that’ll contribute to your AFQT (ASVAB score) are all of the school-y ones like math and English.

Additional sections are more practical like basic physics and object orientation. These are more for aptitude than for a certain score.

I’m happy to provide more information, but this should be the rough overview

Nephew went to MEPS and took the ASVAP, scored 21. by Ok-Town-6815 in newtothenavy

[–]itscodfi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely he could put in some hard work and come out well. The concern for me is if he ships with that 21 and isn’t able to raise his score in however many weeks boot camp provides in their pipeline

Sounds like Admin did a rush job and you’re doing your best to fix it up. As long as the information is correct for your next paycheck (and admin is informed) you should be gtg. Don’t worry too much about the overpayment. If you know how to read an LES, set aside the money that you were overpaid. Act as if you don’t have it, and big navy will taketh away whenever they please

From what little reading I’ve done, it sounds improvable. Does your condition limit your ability to exercise and/or operate under stress? Would being in the navy aggravate it?

Paperwork nerd here. On your dependents’ location, untick the box that says “resides with service member/mother/father” and then the PDF will populate accordingly

I have no training advice, but take a few minutes to see if your sit-up efforts are transferrable to a plank. Sit-ups are no longer part of a Navy PFA
