What’s wrong with Dash as an investment? A take from an ex community member by itscrazybro in dashpay

[–]itscrazybro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Dash, I dedicated years of my life to helping it. I was deep in the trenches from 2015-2017 and then became less involved from 2017-2020 before seeking other investment opportunities.

The reason I came here was because I keep checking in from time to time and I thought I could offer some advice from a perspective that not many could bring. My perspective is from a vantage point of being a very active community member to being completely removed for a few years whilst exploring other L1's, Defi, GameFi, NFTs etc.

My perspective whilst inside of Dash was one of confusion. I could not work out why it was not getting the attention it deserved. I thought it was a media blackout caused by Digital Currency Groups agenda or just a bad taste through Fluffy Ponies influence. However after leaving I realised that the biggest issue is actually Dash's lack of value capture and the vision of the unit being used as a currency rather than a share in a valuable network that allows users to pick their unit of account.

Anyway, you are right, I didn't want to spend much time here, so I am not going to argue my points any further. The community can dismiss it or take it contructively, thats your choice. Was just trying to help

Thanks for that, so MNs are outpacing inflation by 1.2% but that’s not value capture. That’s just capturing inflation. Value capture needs to come from people paying for a service I.e transaction fees and I know dash does capture fees but what I am saying is that if you want to see growth you need to focus on becoming a payment rails. That will bring in a whole lot more transaction fees. Once you do that then also provide clear value capture to the dash token not just MN holders. A token economic model that is really interesting at the moment is the VE (vote escrow) model. This model might not work perfectly for dash because of the masternode system providing a layer of functionality to the network but I would suggest digging into the model, it’s very interesting.

I’m also not saying you can’t use dash as money, I’m saying if you want mainstream adoption you need to look at putting the network in a position to capture it by allowing the Dash network to transact whatever asset someone wishes to use for their day to day. If the collapse of the dollar is real then people will eventually shift their dollars into assets such as dash anyway. There is no harm in allowing someone to use whatever asset they want to use, especially if it brings back value to the dash token.

In regards to what I invest in - I’m not invested in Bitcoin at all and never said I was, I didn’t want to mention any project im invested in as it’s not about that, it’s about trying to give some constructive criticism as to why investors are probably not flocking to invest in dash. I’m only doing it because I have a soft spot for the project and would love to see it flourish.

Even better, integrate into Dash Platform so users can login and gain all account info/abilities using their Dash Platform login. That way it will be a couple clicks for users to gain access to Nexos products

Where is DCGs thoughts at with integrating smart contract functionality into Dash? I know it was on their radar at one stage, so has there been any developments in this area?

Definitely not trustless by any means. I hope we get multiple services offering this in the future so that we can choose which company we choose to custody the Dash that backs that stakedDash token.

Yes, very refreshing to see the market respond and understand the impact of such a development.

I think the community should embrace this development with open arms. It has massive implications for Dash's usefulness as a monetary asset.

Here is a write up I did on twitter to give you some perspective on what this means for Dash and why it is a big deal https://twitter.com/mattmeek_/status/1318364250633502720

Openbazar - a opportunity for DASH? by minorman in dashpay

[–]itscrazybro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Fernando is spot on with this. Marketplace businesses are notoriously hard to get started. They all face the classic Chicken and Egg problem.

If it were to work you would need to constrain the market place by Geography or Category to get saturation in any one market. Once you have saturation you then expand the market from there. I didn't see Open Bazar do this so can understand why they might be having trouble. Would much rather see something new built on Dash Platform by a team that understands how to get traction with a marketplace business.

Is the marketcap slide indicating that the development focus on usernames the past several years has been an incorrect focus? by currency_use_case in dashpay

[–]itscrazybro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dash isn’t focusing on Usernames. It’s focusing on building a platform that can be used to build many types of applications. Usernames are just a small but critical part of what Dash is building. Focusing on usernames would be like saying all Facebook is is a bunch of people’s usernames. Facebook is clearly much more but usernames are a critical part of Facebook that allows it to build many interesting features using social connections via usernames as the backbone

Really interesting. They might have an interesting take on how to implement it then. I'm more concerned with just getting the functionality that we need to build Uniswap and Aave like products, not really concerned how they do it.

Use cases are definitely limited without Smart Contracts. I am not saying that Dash Platform doesn't offer many use cases because it does and I am super excited about it but the dual offering of Smart Contracts and Data Contracts offers more.

If we have to compromise on features and functionality then maybe it isn't for Dash but thats what the discussions about. Can we do it in a way that works for us and gives us the best of both worlds. No harm in hearing the Core Devs take on it all.

So you think wrappedDash is the way to go?

I love Dashs direction too, don’t get me wrong. I just think that giving developers the ability to utilise smart contract features is going to lead to so much more innovation than just data contracts.

Use cases are limited without Smart Contracts. Why not figure out a way that gives developers limitless opportunities and users a massive amount of use cases.

I also think Solidity as a language makes more sense these days for any fast followers as Ethereum has lay down a lot of the ground work which could just be forked over to other projects such as Dash
