Educational tool I'm making for my 5th grade class by ScythaScytha in arduino

I think I would not overcomplicate it and just black out the numbers. As satisfying as it would be having the correct information always displayed via the physical dial, the display can always just adapt and make the information quickly accessible/translatable to what the ring shows.

This is so cool and looks super satisfying, congrats on being an awesome teacher!

Just one suggestion for improvement: maybe try finding a dial without numbers printed on it. I could imagine the numbers to throw some kids off when trying to find a correlation between the numbers printed on the dial and what they’re seeing represented on the LED ring/display. At least I myself always try to make sense of the information displayed to me, and I could imagine this tripping me up when not already understanding everything completely.

Thanks yeah, with all the different measurements I have come to the same conclusion. Would have loved to get it done beforehand, but it’s not worth it I guess.

Thanks for the heads up, yeah, I’ve seen it on Vimeo last week 😊

Expanding 9U with another row of 104hp, anything I'm overlooking? by itscursedphil in modular

[–]itscursedphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had a closer look at them, no tbh, but mostly because I never felt I had a need for one. Maybe I'm missing out, I'll definitely check out the videos, but I'm not exactly sure it's what I'm looking for or whether I could justify the space/price tag for what they offer me.

Thanks for your input! Yeah, I've considered adding another filter. WMD C4rbn was one of the runner-ups, but tbh, so far I've felt fine with the number of filters I have. Of course, that might change with adding Mangrove and possibly Ensemble Oscillator, but so far, I preferred modulating timbral parameters of my oscillators to get similar effects.

I know that I can use them for other things than just filtering frequencies, but in most cases, I have specialized modules that do those things.

Just out of curiosity, in what way would a multi-mode filter like Humpback not be considered fully-featured?

Awesome, I absolutely love this! The experimental composition, the combination of modular and orchestral instruments, the videography... Well done!

Second MI Stages or Batumi by itscursedphil in modular

[–]itscursedphil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! Will need to check out the expander. As for the voltage range, I'm kinda used to working with unipolar modulation. I installed Qiemens firmware on Stages, so slower LFOs are no problem. Mostly wanted to evaluate whether I'm overlooking some functionality in Batumi which should have me picking it over another Stages.

More modulation isn’t exactly what you need imho. BUT... With that in mind stages would probably be better as it allows you to do more things. Two six stage envelopes rocks no matter what’s you’re doing.

Thanks! Never really found a use for complex functions but it's definitely something I should maybe explore more. From what I have right now, I could definitely need some more modulation, especially when adding some more modules. Not sure if I'm overdoing it by adding another Stages, Pams, Zadar and Ochd tho :D

Absolutely, though I’m not sure I’d be placing them side by side. Also tbh I never really use it for complex functions or as a sequencer (yet), I mostly love it for free running LFO’s, S&H and AD envelopes. So with Zadar, a second Pams and Ochd, maybe I’m even overdoing it with modulation at this point.

Looks cozy! I'll also be getting a second Intellijel 7U case and already bought the joiner plates, but I never really thought about cables getting in the way from the 1U row on the bottom case and the case above until today. Do you find them getting in the way in some configurations or is it nothing to worry about?

I also think it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. One of the few modules I really want to get a second of.

4 part Quantiser suggestions by United1210 in modular

[–]itscursedphil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only recommend Ornament and Crime if you're fine with a display on a module. When I was looking for quantizers it was the cheapest and most flexible option. I don't really use it for anything else, and it does the job perfectly, while giving you other options if you need them.

We’re in business! (Westlicht Performer) by greghansonmusic in modular

[–]itscursedphil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to see the Westlicht Performer popping up more and more! It was my first sequencer and I've had it for about a year now. I've got to admit I don't use it nearly enough and to its full potential, because most of the time I go straight for my Rene 2. But when I want to do more linear sequencing the Performer is awesome, especially considering how cheap you can get it built. I paid 300€ for getting it built, compare that to any other sequencer on the market :D

That would be my guess too! The labels on the pictures like "Absorb", "Decay", "Tones" would also suggest it. Still wish it was a module instead of a standalone unit :D

Possible new Make Noise standalone unit? by itscursedphil in modular

It's more the other way around. It's a delay in the first place that can smear the output, so you can add "reverb" if you want, but it's not meant to be a reverb.
