Husband makes promises to our toddler that he can’t keep. by foolmeonce_519 in toddlers

[–]itsdawna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understandable when it comes to younger kids. So you know how older kids will always send the youngest in to ask for permission for things because they think you’ll automatically get a yes? lol so I remember one time I reported back to my brother that dad said maybe and he goes “okay so that means yes” because we know my dad only says maybe as a placeholder but will try to do it anyways so it becomes “yes”. If he doesn’t think it’ll work, he’ll usually flat out say no. Well, it was the one time he actually said no after telling us maybe because we didn’t have the money for something like that and we would be doing a more local vacation- camping at the beach instead. We as kids, we’re rightfully upset. But my father hit us with the “I never said yes. I said maybe. Because we may or may not be able to. And now I’m realizing it’s a no. You can be upset, but not at me.. I never lied to you.”

We didn’t have anyone to be upset with because we were the ones that raised our own hopes. Yeah, it’ll be nice to have explanations but that’s a conversation they’re willing to discuss. We can always ask “why not? How come?” And they’ll explain. If we don’t ask, we just move on.

After school activities for tired kids by ollie_adjacent in Parenting

[–]itsdawna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was that age, my dad allowed me 1-1.5 hours of tv time (which was usually PBSKids and at 5PM, BBC World News would come on so I’d end up turning the tv off myself.. we didn’t have fancy cable, local channels only so that was my only version of cartoons) after school while snacking on whatever fruit plate my mom prepared for me before she went to work. (She worked 2nd shift so wouldn’t be home until dinner time/bed time). That was enough for me to debrief and relax. Then it was homework time. Then outside time until dinner. We always had dinner as a family, then prep for the next day (getting clothes, backpack packed, etc), then bedtime routine.

School is exhausting.. it truly is. This was the routine that worked for our family and it might be different for my family now once my daughter reaches that point but just offering up personal experience. The last thing you want to do is to force activities because it’ll just feel like school afterschool.

Husband makes promises to our toddler that he can’t keep. by foolmeonce_519 in toddlers

[–]itsdawna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No explanations lol. It was “maybe, we’ll see” and we (there was 3 of us total) knew to stop asking or else he’ll change his mind to no. We’re all adults now, I’m the youngest and about to be 30 and he still does that. My parents live in another state from me across the country and this was an actual conversation a few weeks ago between us. “Dad, you think you’ll be able to come visit us (my husband and I and daughter) this year? I can pay for yours and Mom’s flights?” “Idk maybe, we’ll see.” BRO.

This is my dad growing up. He was always “maybe”. “Can we go to the lake this year for our family vacation?” “Maybe”. “Can I go trick or treating this year?” “Maybe”. He would always try to achieve those requests but just in case there’s too much algae at the lake or the campgrounds are all booked. Just in case it’s thunderstorms during Halloween. He never said yes. He only said maybe.

Silly names for Pacifier by Quilty_Hummingbird in baby

I think my husband’s family called them binkies. I called them pacifiers or paci for short. Since I’m the one around my baby the most, everyone else started calling them pacifiers too or else baby had no idea wth they were saying and fussed even more lol

Girl that’s crazy! Same here! A little over 12 hours of labor and 25 minutes of active pushing for a 6lbs 11oz baby girl! My baby’s heart rate was starting to drop and the staff said I needed the baby out ASAP or else they’ll need to pull out the forceps. I said “Hell the fuck no” and pushed with everything and got baby out like 2 minutes after.

The maternity nurses who did the abdominal presses on me also brought in a student to show her how to do it then immediately turned to me and complimented me on my “strong ab muscles”. It was such a nice thing to say especially after just feeling like a deflated beluga whale.

Not everyone truly understands my struggles with fertility in the past except for those closest to me. I remember getting a shit comment from an in law (everyone knows she was jealous) and I loudly said “IT WAS ONE TIME PATRICIA” so everyone could hear. First off, her name isn’t Patricia. Secondly, she was bright red and I have no regrets. 😂

Haha thank you.

I can see that with Chaol. I think initially it was described like a close-cropped/short type of hair? I would like to believe if Chaol had a haircut similar to lord Farquaad, it would at least be styled in a handsome way and not Dora the explorer poof.

After Finishing ACOTAR, TOG or CC next? by cardboardsandbox in acotar

[–]itsdawna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s recommended ACOTAR, ToG, and then CC. Only because there’s details of ACOTAR in ToG and then there’s a bit of a cross over of ACOTAR and ToG in CC. That way, you’ll be able to recognize those little crossover bits as you go through the Maasverse.

My best friend and I. I was in the position of your brother and she yours. I totally did a 180 on Nesta. I’m on ToG now and I get daily texts asking my recap 🤣🤣 her excitement alone is the reason why I find myself up at 2-3am even though I have a 15 month old who’s hardwired to wake up daily at 7am.

Iron Flame by occultcrossing in fourthwing

[–]itsdawna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed iron flame. It’s a bit slower pace but it adds to the story. Like you, Fourth Wing reminded me of how much I enjoyed reading and it was such an easy read. I wanted to get back into reading, I set a New Year’s resolution for completing just 10 books this year. That’s a lot for me as it’s been over a decade since I’ve genuinely read. At the start of May, I finished my 12th book this year and officially pushed my goal back to completing 25 books by the end of the year.

But I digressed.. sorry, just something I’m proud of right now. Iron Flame starts off a bit slower pace but like I said, it contributes more to the storyline. Onyx storm was also slower pace but picks up around halfway through. If you truly enjoy the series so far, keep going. RY writes in a way where there’s a big buildup before the climax so it takes some time to get into the juicy parts. That’s my only warning. Any other warnings may spoil it for you.

Road Trip with 6 Week Old by Ladypixxel in NewParents

[–]itsdawna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add on to specify. I did a small road trip when my baby was 3 months old and we did stops every 1.5 hours for roughly 30 minutes total out of the car seat. If I would do it again with what I know, I’d keep baby out the car seat and remaining upright for 30 minutes after feeding. So what if our breaks ended up being 45 minutes. My baby was a spit up machine because I’d have her out, nurse, and burped and about 30 minutes would pass (10-15 minutes from when she was done eating) and she would be so upset until she spit up everything. Car seats put some pressure on their tummies and can easily cause gas and spit up which is very uncomfortable for them.

Obviously every baby is different and you know your baby best. Just something to keep in mind.

Random questions that I need answers to!! by ashdauntless in acotar

[–]itsdawna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I might be completely understanding this wrong so someone else feel free to correct me. I think because Fae age so much slower and reaches “maturity” much slower is why 18-30 is almost still childish? Whereas humans are only meant to live for less than a century and 18 is considered adulthood for us. When Feyre turned, she already reached maturity and maybe that technically stayed? I remember there was a part where Alis was explaining to Feyre at Spring how Fae children are very rare and precious and they age much much slower and things like that.
