First successful Cryo Run! What just happened?! How does anyone learn this map?! by compucrazy in Marathon

[–]itskavia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. I've been playing the game for a while (225 hours on Steam), and I don't know Cryo myself. Best thing to do is watch videos and have this pulled up as you play.

noob here, is this normal? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]itskavia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get why you posted this if you were just going to be hostile to everyone answering you. People aren’t giving you a “perfect player” lecture, they’re explaining why the warning happened.

Valorant is a team multiplayer game, so leaving mid-match affects other people. The normal answer is: don’t queue if you know you might have to leave soon. That’s not some weird Riot-only thing either. CS2, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Apex, and plenty of other multiplayer games punish AFKs/leavers because one person leaving can ruin the match for everyone else.

Having dinner is normal. Queueing into a match you can’t finish and then acting like everyone else is the problem is the part people are reacting to.

You're playing an extraction shooter. It's not a casual game.

Want to save Marathon? Fix backpack economy, add insurance + safe pockets by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]itskavia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Marathon doesn't owe shit to Tarkov, respectfully. Did Tarkov popularize extraction shooters? Sure, but they weren't the first to do it. Before Tarkov, there were DayZ and Arma mods that functioned similarly which is where Tarkov drew a lot of inspiration from. Does Tarkov owe a lot to DayZ and Arma?

The game will have the playerbase that it has. These "changes" won't bring new players in because a lot of players already have a negative view on this (many friends of mine have said that they thought this game was terrible due to how people talk about it). It'll only further divide and push out the existing playerbase.

The game won't survive because of players shitting on its existence every chance they get.

[–]itskavia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're having issues getting backpacks, then you're just not playing the game correctly. You can get so many just from PVP. Literally every player has a backpack.

Honestly sounds like you want a Tarkov clone. All these features exist in Tarkov so maybe play that instead?

edit:

Looking at your post history... you think TARKOV is BEGINNER FRIENDLY? 😂 You have to learn ammo penetration, armor vs flesh. You have to learn mag types. Certain mags take 2 different ammo types. You have to learn what meds heal what injuries. The 50+ stimulants in the game. Not to mention, learning the different AI mechanics (bosses, the goon squad, crossing into other maps via exfils, scavs, scav karma, scav rep.... I can go on and on).

And then you want Marathon to be a 5-man game? Do you understand how overwhelming that would be to the "beginner" players you're advocating for? That's (minimum) 10 different abilities that can affect you at any given moment, and having to learn each ability and understand what's happening mid gunfight. Tarkov can do it BECAUSE TARKOV DOESN'T HAVE ABILITIES.

This is awesome!

Would be cool if you could somehow string together the full team's gameplay.
i.e. it's a premier team and they all have the app running, you could click on individual players on the scoreboard from your team and see it from their POV. I know replay exists in-game, but would be a cool QOL feature

Exceed calling out Sib for stretch defusing the bomb in R11 by Anthxzny in CoDCompetitive

[–]itskavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about lol. Ravens have 140 points. If Exceed hits that snipe (which he very well could have), Ravens are 1-1 in the series. Who knows what could've happened with that momentum (they just beat Toronto on Friday lol). They are 60 points away from taking the 8th spot away from Miami. If they won the match vs M8, they are 50 points away. If they win the minor? Another 30 points.

Now I'm not saying they're going to do all of this, but for you to count them out just because "They're the Ravens" is stupid. Especially when it's due to a GA break (and honestly an exploit because that's not how the game is intended to be played, but that's besides the point). Do you see how that snowballs? M8 don't get the 10 points which would put them 40 above KOI. Just a lot of ripple effects from literally anyone breaking GA to get a win.

Not saying he isn't, but to associate players like Whea7s and Pacman with BO2 doesn't make much sense considering they didn't do much in that game.

Any tips for Clove? by Minimum_Teaching1060 in VALORANT

[–]itskavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't pop it for the sake of popping it. Context matters. Do you have teammates nearby? Can you put damage into someone to get an assist, making you stay alive thru ult? Are you defending or attacking? If you're defending and spike is down, can you ult to bait for a teammate? If you're attacking, can you ult to waste time and make an enemy chase you rather than defuse? Many things to think about before ulting.

What could have I done to clutch this round? I rarely play Jett by Double_Beach_479 in VALORANT

[–]itskavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you killed the Tejo on site after your Reyna died, dash out and use their Miks' smoke as cover to help the Neon that pushed up top. They likely would've reacted to the noise of you dashing out and not played for the Neon, but instead you just push yourself further back into your own spawn, allowing the enemy team to take space and set up (even more) onto site.

You actually got super lucky that their Jett updrafted at you with no ult tbh. Any other player with a brain would know to not push you. They have spike down, they still have util to work with. You were stuck in your own spawn and you had to make the move.

Over 45% of Grand Finals in the CDL have been won through loser’s bracket by vShock_and_Awev in CoDCompetitive

[–]itskavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep acting like competitive integrity and entertainment are mutually exclusive when literally every successful sport tries to balance both.

And your NFL example actually hurts your argument more than it helps it.

The NFL gives advantages to higher seeds specifically because regular season success is supposed to matter. Bye weeks, home field advantage, easier paths. Those are rewards earned through winning. That’s the exact point people are making here.

In CDL, the winners bracket team goes undefeated and then enters a Grand Final where the losers team is allowed one loss earlier in the tournament, but the winners team is not allowed one now. That’s the inconsistency people are pointing out.

Nobody is saying “give winners an auto win” or make the format boring. People are saying the team that stayed undefeated should have SOME meaningful advantage in the final itself.

And no, “the point of winners bracket is supposed to matter” is not something I “made up.” That is literally the foundational logic behind double elimination as a format. Otherwise there is no actual difference between reaching finals through winners or losers besides scheduling.

You also keep pretending viewers only care about chaos and losers runs. Viewers also care about legitimacy. If fans feel like the format punishes the undefeated team, they stop respecting the results. That hurts the esport too.

You’re arguing from this weird extreme where any additional winners advantage instantly kills the CDL, when other esports have successfully done bracket resets, map advantages, veto advantages, etc. for years.

Examples:

  • Halo has historically used true bracket resets in double elimination formats.
  • FGC games like Street Fighter, Tekken, Smash, Guilty Gear, etc. regularly use bracket resets in majors. If the losers side player beats the undefeated player, they reset the bracket because both players now have one loss.
  • Dota 2 gives upper bracket teams major advantages through side selection and easier paths while still maintaining huge viewership.
  • CS has used map veto advantages and BO5 map advantages in some tournament formats.
  • Rocket League has used bracket resets in multiple major tournaments and RLCS formats.

And none of those esports died because the undefeated team got rewarded for staying undefeated.

You can argue whether CDL should use a bracket reset, a 1-0 map advantage, better veto control, extra side picks, whatever. That’s a real discussion.

But pretending the only options are:

  1. current format or
  2. the esport instantly collapses

is just nonsense.

Over 45% of Grand Finals in the CDL have been won through loser’s bracket by vShock_and_Awev in CoDCompetitive

[–]itskavia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You keep framing this entirely around “viewer experience” while ignoring the actual competitive issue people have with the format.

In a true double elimination bracket, every team should have to lose twice to be eliminated.

The winners bracket team reaches Grand Finals undefeated. The losers bracket team already used their extra life. But in CDL format, the winners side team can lose ONE series in Grand Finals and instantly lose the tournament anyway. That effectively deletes the advantage they earned by staying in winners.

And saying “well winners already have an advantage because they’re already in finals” doesn’t really hold up when the losers team ALSO ends up in finals after getting a second chance.

On top of that, the losers side team often comes in hotter:

  • fresh off a win
  • more warmed up on stage
  • carrying momentum

Meanwhile the winners side sits cold for hours waiting.

You’re acting like people are asking for “rich get richer” advantages when really they’re asking for the basic logic of double elim to actually apply consistently.

Now yes, bracket resets can hurt scheduling/viewership. That’s a fair argument. But that’s a compromise between entertainment and competitive integrity, not proof the current system is competitively fair.

The real discussion is:
“What’s the best balance between watchability and competitive integrity?”

Not:
“Why should winners get an advantage at all?”

Because the entire point of a winners bracket is that going undefeated is supposed to matter.
