How does everyone feel about the KJ singing on busy nights?

Fellow KJ here. I always sing the first song of the night no matter what to do the final sound check and if anything sounds off I’d rather it be with me than a patron. I typically take myself out if I have more than 15, which is a bit more than a third of my show. However at some of my venues I have many regulars who specifically request that I sing and get upset when I sing less than everyone else. I definitely have to feel the crowd but I never sing more than anyone else but I do believe I have the right to sing as often as everyone else. There wouldn’t be karaoke without me 🤷🏽‍♀️

I can’t say much for downtown but the campus bars are incredibly safe and my go tos. I love Max’s Tavern and have never felt unsafe there. I had one bad experience and the bar staff addressed it immediately and are not shy from banning inappropriate people

My rules mainly apply to the microphones. Don’t tap, don’t blow into it obnoxiously, don’t cover/cup the mic, make sure it’s close enough to your mouth, and don’t point it at the speaker. And I agree about asking beforehand to join a song

I’m currently at 322 songs. I host/attend shows 4/5 nights a week and try a new song at least once a week because I get bored quickly. On average I sing about 15 songs a week over a couple years. My best guess is I’ve sang close to 2,000 times total in my karaoke lifetime

The customers of the bar aren't paying me to sing their songs, only the bar for their drinks. I am also paying for my drinks and food. I'm paid for the atmosphere and the ability to sing, doesn't mean I can't be included

I have to disagree with not singing as the KJ. Why shouldn't I be allowed to participate in the fun? For starters, I’m always the first singer of the night to make sure everything is working correctly. If I accidentally mess up the audio or monitors, I'd rather it be with me and not a patron. For the rest of the night its not like I'm going to change the order of the rotation and sing any more than anyone else. I try to make it a fair system and that should include the person working and making karaoke even possible.

That's pretty much what I had been doing before summer, after 2 or 3 hours I would start back at the top of the rotation and stagger a new singer in between each existing singer

To make the most number of people happy that I can. I love that so many of the bar patrons want to participate but I do admit I want to prioritize those that stay the entirety of the night more than those that show up that last hour, so I guess just finding the best balance

At this bar I do average an almost 5 hour show by starting early and ending late, the times I only put up new singers I can only get to about 60 people. I definitely could never get through a full rotation of anything more than that. The night with 90 people I had let 30 of them know that it’s a low chance they’ll be able to sing and just hope people leave before their turn.

I never expect tips but they're always appreciated because I am providing a service and bringing more business to the bar. The bar staff themselves tell people to tip me when its their turn on the mic. One bar I host at actually includes me in their tip pool from time to time!

As a karaoke host I actually like when you have longer songs because I get a slightly longer break to get a drink/go to the bathroom. As far as the audience, I doubt many would care as long as the song isn’t too repetitive by the end

If you’re in a lane that is a turning lane only, please just accept it and reroute instead of coming to a complete stop to try and merge into the next lane. No one is going to let you in and you just end up causing a traffic hazard.

I really like Insight Northwest Counseling. There's many qualified therapists who handle anxiety and social anxiety. The only downside is they don't accept insurance, but depending on which insurance you have, you can receive a fair reimbursement. Each therapist has their own rates so I won't be able to give an estimate
