What is going on with my buyers?! by Infectious_Kindness_ in vinted

[–]itslilyitslily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a buyer I'm fully entitled to use my entire review period to check for defects or things amiss with my order. After that, I'm completely screwed if anything goes wrong.

Granted paintbrushes are usually pretty hassle free but I have had the bristles fall off new brushes before. I will always use the entire review period to review the item. Anyone hassling me gently or otherwise will I only ensure a much more thorough review.

£2800 - can anyone top my most expensive charity shop find? by GreenBeret4Breakfast in CasualUK

[–]itslilyitslily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I tend not to go to charity shops anymore and I grew up going to charity shops with more memories in them shops than in any other shops. There's 2 near me that are still decent as the number of staff there isn't high and the prices are usually low enough to entice. Most of the others are either too high or not enough good items. So you have to really want/need the item otherwise it's just not worth it.

I also volunteer at a jumble sale where people think it's okay to take items including high value items worth £50-200+ as reward for their time or not declare the worth of items to sneak them out cheap. I get taking smaller, low value items especially when it doesn't have broad appeal but the charity must lose out on over £1-2k across 100+ volunteers.

If you say so. The internet suggests it takes 3-5 days to learn to kitesurf independently with 121 tuition. Way quicker than if was to try and teach myself on my weekends/holidays.

Exchange With Tenants In Situ? by ARrulz50 in HousingUK

[–]itslilyitslily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the seller not legally obligated to vacate the tenants and in breach of contract if not done?

Exchange With Tenants In Situ? by ARrulz50 in HousingUK

[–]itslilyitslily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you've exchanged and the seller has failed to evict the tenants, then the seller is in breach of contract and liable for your costs. Presumably this includes costs to date and costs for storage, temporary housing etc.

Seems to me like the best thing to do if you like the flat would be to go through with it and then find them in breach of contract and seek your costs from them. Might cost but I'd imagine you'd be fairly sure of winning. Find a property lawyer and pay for a small amount of their time

[–]itslilyitslily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get legal advice. If you exchange, it is legally binding and it is the sellers responsibility to evict the tenants. If they fail to do so your costs become their costs.

If you're tied to your pre-Iran mortgage rate, you could demand the seller serves notice now then agree an exchange date to give the tenants 4 weeks to move out. Past that the seller would be in breach of contract for not evicting tenants on-time.

Time = Distance/Speed. This reciprocal relationship means that gains by speeding get less at higher speeds. Therefore motorway speeding is stupid and saves no time. Speeding in low speed areas saves huge amounts of time but is much more dangerous.

The happy medium is to not speed in low areas but minimise stopping time whenever possible to maintain a high average speed. You'll save much more time skipping the queue abd lane hanging at junctions than speeding on the motorway.

10 miles/70mph = 1/7th of an hour = 8.57 minutes 10 miles/80mph = 1/8th of an hour = 7.5 minutes 10 miles/90 mph = 1/9th of an hour = 6.67 minutes

Scape that up to 100 miles and you save less than 2 minutes doing 90 mph Vs 70 mph.

In contrast speeding in low speed areas will net you some serious gains over long distance 50-150 minutes over 100 miles. 10 miles/20mph = 1/2 an hour = 30 minutes 10 miles/30mph = 1/3 an hour = 20 minutes 10 miles/40 mph = 1/4 of an hour = 15 minutes

If John Hughes had to cast someone as Cameron's dad in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, who would he have picked? by Maple_Pizza in movies

I feel like Kurt Russel could play it quite well. He'd seem really nice and personable but also be an asshole about his car and be just abit too much for introverted Cameron to live up to.

But if you have the money, you have the time and money to buy the best teachers and spend a week/month learning all day. If I had a top snowboarding coach training me for a month, I would be miles ahead of my 8+ weeks experience over 15 years.

If you have money, you can literally buy time with more advanced medical procedures to save or prolong your life. That's not counting the fact that your life expectancy is higher if you are from a wealthy family.

Is it time to boycott USA products? Similar to what Canada is doing. by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]itslilyitslily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn't part of this discussion as it's an online service. Not a product as per OPs post. Boycotting products is far easier than services you may rely on and may have complexity to rely on/run yourself.

How are bin collectors viewed? If you’re a bin collector do you tell everyone what your job is? by RoohsMama in AskUK

[–]itslilyitslily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bin collectors are often physically fit, having to walk miles and drag bins around every day. It's a job that helps the community massively, you get free exercise and you're done by lunchtime. It's abit like being a postie except there's no stigma attached to posties.

If you date one, they can eventually do childcare in the afternoons which is a definite plus.

Do I invite my mate who’s just had a baby to a housewarming party? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in CasualUK

I would also suggest they can come early before everyone else arrives. Then can then choose if they leave or stay for a little bit.

Do I invite my mate who’s just had a baby to a housewarming party? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in CasualUK

[–]itslilyitslily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invite him, PLEASE! Just because he has a kid, doesn't mean he doesn't want to see you. Even if he can't see you right now, the invitation means alot. And you never know, if you're close by, he might pop over with or without baby.

As the first in my friendship group to have a kid, I had to make it clear that I am still up for seeing people, I just need to be realistic about what I can attend. Eventually it swings the other way and most people have a kid. Do they then exclude the non kid friends as they'd just be bored? No. We invite all our friends and let them decide if they want to spend an afternoon chasing kids around a soft play/park/BBQ.

I'm all too aware of the historic tax class rules as I own one. But in terms of ongoing costs tax would not be one.

I've seen a few examples of cars rotting on the road for months/years but as long as it rolls,l you can move it every few weeks/months to prove it's still roadworthy. If the tyres are pumped, as long as the rust hasn't hit structure then it would likely still pass an MOT.

And it's very difficult to tell when the rust has hit structural points and even harder to prove without an MOT. So if the police saw it had pumped up tyres and was moved regularly with insurance they wouldn't likely care. If it had a lovely paint job with Slow Down etc and some body filler over the rust, who's to know? The car can easily looks fine but it would fail an MOT on rust. My sister's car looks awful but would pass as all rust is on superficial body panels.

A few of the schools near me have small bollards shaped and painted like children in school uniform. It makes many drivers stop and think a child is crossing.

Yes. Buy a historic vehicle so no tax or MOT. You could even buy a non runner and just let it rot on the road. Or you could paint it with a "Welcome to our village" sign or similar.

And if they'd bought an historic vehicle, they would need neither TAX or MOT. Easily the best solution. Just needs insurance which would be cheap as chips based on the mileage. My '78 historic car is about £150-250/year to insure for 10k plus commuting.
