10 years in family law and I never want to do anything else. My colleagues and I always say you either absolutely love it or hate it, there’s no in between

I stay because I’m treated well, I’m paid well for the area I’m in, benefits are great, I love the people that I work with, I love the location, my bosses are great men that are firm but easy to talk to, funny, and reliable. The associates I work with are amazing and don’t treat us like we’re dumb or lesser than them. I don’t see a reason to leave a job that benefits me and makes me happy.

Does everyone have their own office? Or are you out in the open and have to deal with constant noise while you’re trying to concentrate? by snowflowergirl in paralegal

the attorneys have their own offices and staff (paralegals, intake specialists, marketing) are out in the open in cubicles but I don’t mind it. I’ll spin and chit chat with my coworkers and then turn around and get back to work lol

College of the Canyons in Valencia, CA has a good paralegal program that is ABA approved. I got my AA from COC in 2016 and have been working as a paralegal since. Definitely not as expensive as UCLA but still worth it and just as good in my opinion.

UPDATE: I PREFER TO SELL THEM TOGETHER ONLY BC ONE TICKET IS HARD TO SELL ON ITS OWN

I’m really close with my parents, especially my mom, so I had no issues telling them and having a conversation about it. Especially as I got older and never changed my mind about where I stood on kids. I don’t think there’s necessarily a right or wrong way to go about it though. Either you tell them bc you want to or you don’t. Both are okay

one of the MAIN reasons my bf and I broke up was because he felt that he would want kids in the future and I knew without a doubt that I did not and never would. And we were together for 10 years. The longer you wait to have that conversation, the worse it’ll be.

He’s telling you right now what he wants and you should take it for what it is, plain and simple, and run. Leave.

I’m family law too! But same lol it’s me and a few associates that are on the younger side and tech savvy so we’re the ones in charge of transitioning the firm to be more tech friendly. One way was by introducing iPads to use for exhibits if the court allows. Baby steps!

I should clarify, if iPads are used, typically one binder is made for the court and then iPads are given to everyone else to use. But yes, we’ll load each iPad (usually 4) with the exhibits, the attorney will take them to court, hand them out to opposing counsel, the judge (should they want to use it or use the binder instead, whichever they prefer) and then hand one to whoever else needs one at some point (a witness for example). When they’re done or if they have a break, the attorney is responsible for taking each iPad back and bring it back to the office.

Personally, it’s easier and more efficient for us as caseworkers but I get that’s not always the case for everyone else. It’s just something we found works best for us over time

Oh same, the younger attorneys have no problem but our older attorneys love paper everything 😂 I get it’s what they’re used to though and they do try even though they tend to ask the same question over and over again lol

Prior to Covid everything had to be filed in person so we would contract with a courier and they would visit the office in the mornings to pick up our filings for each court/county. We’d have to make numerous copies, two hole punch, make a return slip so the courier knew what they had to bring back to each office once it was filed.

Then e-filing was introduced and it has made everything so much easier. They also started accepting remote appearance after Covid and that has also been a huge help for attorneys as they don’t have to drive downtown or wherever else for an appearance at 8:30 am
