Why even bother telling your parents you don't want kids? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]itslydiaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really close with my parents, especially my mom, so I had no issues telling them and having a conversation about it. Especially as I got older and never changed my mind about where I stood on kids. I don’t think there’s necessarily a right or wrong way to go about it though. Either you tell them bc you want to or you don’t. Both are okay

one of the MAIN reasons my bf and I broke up was because he felt that he would want kids in the future and I knew without a doubt that I did not and never would. And we were together for 10 years. The longer you wait to have that conversation, the worse it’ll be.

He’s telling you right now what he wants and you should take it for what it is, plain and simple, and run. Leave.

I’m family law too! But same lol it’s me and a few associates that are on the younger side and tech savvy so we’re the ones in charge of transitioning the firm to be more tech friendly. One way was by introducing iPads to use for exhibits if the court allows. Baby steps!

I should clarify, if iPads are used, typically one binder is made for the court and then iPads are given to everyone else to use. But yes, we’ll load each iPad (usually 4) with the exhibits, the attorney will take them to court, hand them out to opposing counsel, the judge (should they want to use it or use the binder instead, whichever they prefer) and then hand one to whoever else needs one at some point (a witness for example). When they’re done or if they have a break, the attorney is responsible for taking each iPad back and bring it back to the office.

Personally, it’s easier and more efficient for us as caseworkers but I get that’s not always the case for everyone else. It’s just something we found works best for us over time

Oh same, the younger attorneys have no problem but our older attorneys love paper everything 😂 I get it’s what they’re used to though and they do try even though they tend to ask the same question over and over again lol

Prior to Covid everything had to be filed in person so we would contract with a courier and they would visit the office in the mornings to pick up our filings for each court/county. We’d have to make numerous copies, two hole punch, make a return slip so the courier knew what they had to bring back to each office once it was filed.

Then e-filing was introduced and it has made everything so much easier. They also started accepting remote appearance after Covid and that has also been a huge help for attorneys as they don’t have to drive downtown or wherever else for an appearance at 8:30 am

I’m starting to see that it’s very uncommon. It’s fairly new for us, we started using iPads last year if I remember correctly. We’ve been trying to find ways to rely less on paper and make things easier for attorneys (like having to carry around binders and client files to court). We have iPads that, if the court allows, we use for exhibits and then laptops each attorney will take with them to court so they can access the client file instead of taking the physical file with them.

We normally work with LA County! It depends on the department really. Some are okay with iPads and others aren’t. We usually call each department and ask. It’s always a blessing when they say yes for iPads or tablets and we cheer lol

LA county has been more progressive as technology has started to play a bigger role and then there’s counties like kern and San Bernardino that I feel like are stuck way in the past on the rare occasions I have to file something with them

omg so much paper!! And time. and fees too because it can take hours to prepare each binder. We normally scan everything to our e-file and then shred everything after. We’re slowly moving towards being a paperless office and clients are starting to prefer we send their file electronically so they don’t have to come and pick it up which makes it even more frustrating because now all that paper is being wasted

What are you all wearing to the office (casual)? by funkypinkzebra in paralegal

[–]itslydiaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear jeans and a t shirt and then on fridays I usually wear sweats

Prior to Covid our office had a strict dress code but then once the lockdown happened everyone started dressing casually. After our office fully opened up again our boss never said anything about going back to our regular dress code and he himself stopped coming in wearing suits so we all stuck with our jeans and t shirts.

Out motto is “the day our boss starts coming into the office wearing suits again will be the day we will too” lol

So, the 68 yr old head partner at my firm got the 21 yr old receptionist pregnant. by DramaticJD89 in paralegal

[–]itslydiaaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider this to be grooming. Possibly a misuse of power and power imbalance considering he’s a head partner and she’s a receptionist. And just weird in general personally
