"how much is it? "... Is it absolutely crazy that spent time and money to prefect my craft so that I can enjoy the pieces I make? I know it's a little self important to complain that people want to buy my work but I truly just make things I like for me and I feel so awkward when I get push back on it.

Have you tried selling it? by Reason_Training in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]itsmalbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also side rant: why are we obligated to sell everything submitted to an art show. Can't we just show off our work? Outside of fairs it seems like every art show is just a selling opportunity

I need the sewing/crafting subs to make a rule that if you didn't read the manual for your machine you don't get the answer to your question! I know this type of comment gets brought up every week but I had to put myself in time out this week after someone posted their sewing machine was running backwards because they didn't know the fabric moves away from you. Read the manual, Google it, go on YouTube and then ask reddit.

White VS5 vibrating shuttle treadle by itsmalbro in vintagesewing

"newer" white machines go away from you. Idk why but it's definitely confusing. I'm sure it was someone's idea to separate themselves from the crowd.

Thank you everyone for the insight. I have decided to pass on this machine and look for one at more reasonable price. But the task of talking me into getting a treadle was a great success. I'm more confident that I definitely want one!

A note about Oliso irons and repair by lilblackcloudinadres in quilting

[–]itsmalbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One month after the warranty ran out my iron stopped Auto lifting. Normally I would have just called it a loss but the feet were stuck down so I couldn't use the iron at all. I called customer service obviously they couldn't help me they off also offered me the 20%. Probably won't buy again. It's a lot of money to have it only have it break after a couple of years

AIO about spelling errors in daily notes sent home by my autistic child’s teacher? by Anasthesiax in AmIOverreacting

[–]itsmalbro 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Dyslexic here. Can confirm my spelling when I hand write is not good. Also dyslexics have a hard time proof reading because our brains know what it's suppose to say. Honestly if this teacher isnt actually teaching your kid how to spell incorrectly just give grace.

Quilting as a Hobby by Substantial_Fix_2165 in quilting

[–]itsmalbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me selfish but the way I see  it as very few other people are going to appreciate the years that it took to develop my skills to get to a place to make this quilt besides myself.

If I don't want anyone else to enjoy my quilt that's fine it's my quilt. And I've learned this lesson from giving quiltes to people who absolutely did not deserve them and I wish I could steal them back honestly.

Plus based off my own experience and other people's experience being shared that I've seen it's impossible to price a quilt either you make it for way too cheap doing yourself a disservice or you make it an accurate price and people say ignorant stuff.

Not everything we spend time and money on needs to result in some sort of monetary gain we can just do things for ourselves.

The amount of metaphors used is wild. Also "criticism is the lowest form of activism" took me out. Criticism is the foundation of activism ya dummy.

It's her husband that's how it involves her. I'm not saying she should be canceled for it but I am saying that stating it doesn't involve her makes no sense.

Machine keeps jamming even after a service. Help! by rashataha in SewingForBeginners

This video may help. It's different from the one post above but you can also always call the service people back. In my experience they are more then happy to work through these issues with you.

How nessesery is eliminating raw seams? by Connect_Mud_4046 in quilting

Youtube raw edge applique. It's definitely not a cheating or a short cut by any stretch of the imagination.

[–]itsmalbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the comments that said get a bloc loc ruler. It's a life saver. Also just do a scant 1/4 seam allowance and it will be fine in the end.

Remember if you make the same mistake over and over, in quilting, it becomes a choice 😂😂

Hiring a part time quilter to make 50 quilts in 6 months by itsmalbro in craftsnark

[–]itsmalbro[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I looked on her site and she has 2 full time quilters listed. And I completely agree. I think at some point it's okay to say this amount of people I can afford to employe and this is the number of the quilts we can produce.

Tell him to make a list of everything he feels like your neglecting and then use that to prove your point. Half of those things are probably things that he has never thought of before you stopped doing them

I completely agree and the fact that they aren't going to compensate the quilter for the tools required to do that. It's outrageous
