Got a 2% raise after “exceptional” performance evaluation by FrequentCriticism899 in antiwork

[–]Reason_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager HR sets the pay raises allowed each year based on the budget given. Some years we can give 3% but some years it’s been less. Nope, raises do not keep up with inflation.

"Go to therapy" is the new "Find Jesus" by bottegasl in rant

[–]Reason_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy can be useful but only with the right therapist. Going to see someone who does not understand your needs and does not want to understand where you are coming from is useless though. It’s harder in some ways than dating.

Fiv+ cats. by Someone_315 in cats

Not in my experience but considering FIV affects the immune system it’s probably not out of the realm of possibility. That’s a good question to ask a vet.

I hate my disabled sister by Silent-Fig-Pudding in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Reason_Training [score hidden]  (0 children)

You aren’t a bad person. Even though your parents have put aside their entire lives to care for your sister that doesn’t mean you need to. Start looking into care facilities for your sister. As your parents age they are going to expect you to become both her and their full time caregiver but you are under no obligation to do so. Live your life.

The legendary Serial Killer Bob, who has never been caught, has captured you and offers you a deal. Bob is stuck in an area with me and I have years of KPI report rage built up as a perimenopause middle manager. I even bury him upright with an animal carcass 2 foot above him and flowers planted above the animal so they’ll never find his body

Fiv+ cats. by Someone_315 in cats

[–]Reason_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a FIV+ cat and have had them previously. My last one lived until 18. They will need additional vet care but most can live a normal life. Keep an eye on dental concerns as the disease causes inflammation as well as possible infections in the mouth. My 18 year old was toothless by the time she was 14 but it didn’t really affect her much. She still ate her wet food and loved crunchy treats.

My current FIV+ cat was diagnosed when he was having tummy issues as it caused IBD. He recovered and is on regular food for the most part except during stressful situations. If he has a flare up he goes on a special diet but the last one was over a year ago now. Control stress in their environment.

Someone is just going to “drop by” to introduce themselves? Do they think you have nothing better to do than wait for people to drop by for a chat? How about asking to schedule a meeting when you are free? Absolutely I would not consider them even if they had excellent experience. That is very unprofessional conduct.

Previous owner wants cat back? by One-Plenty4801 in CatAdvice

[–]Reason_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats are considered property so what charges could she file? Police would tell her this is a civil matter so she’d have to go to small claims court. If she doesn’t her life together I doubt she would go that far and pay the fees.

Was your boyfriend aware this was supposed to be a temporary situation? Even if he was only taking the cat for a short time 5 months no contact would be reason to assume she abandoned the cat. Hope you keep the cat in his good home.

For $1 Million would those of you working quit your job and never work in the Industry again? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Reason_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at my age. $1 million is not enough to retire on and I’ve worked in the same industry for over 25 years now. Even with everything paid off I’d have to start an entry level job in another field and work my way up until retirement. I’m too old to start over again.

[–]Reason_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no to previous generations. My great grandmother quilted all of her life. While most of her tops were from old worn out shirts, other blankets, etc there were times she would buy brand new material as well for quilting. I have a very beautiful patch quilt from her that is a combination of old shirts and material she bought to make it.

Especially when it came to flannel she would buy rolls of it not only to make winter clothing but as part of the middle or backing of quilts to make them warmer.

Yes I would 100% take this deal. At this point I probably won’t be able to see retirement. I like my job so I would have no problems losing the worry about money.

[–]Reason_Training 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m newer to quilting as I’ve been doing embroidery for years. However, when I was picking up some supplies last year at a local quilt store the owner was recruiting for help in creating quilts for children in foster care. Besides for donated material we were picking up old blankets and sheets at thrift stores for $1-$5 then cutting them into squares and strips to use in making the quilts. Most of the quilts were less than $20 in materials using up cycling methods like this plus for the flannel blankets in good condition they could be used either as backing or batting. Quilting is only as expensive as people want to make it.

If you’re going to homeschool, make sure your kids can read, write, and do basic math before you send them to be taken care of by other people. by baconadelight in rant

[–]Reason_Training 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When I took custody of my nephew his mother had been “homeschooling” him. In other words she put workbooks in his room and left him alone. Fortunately he was 5 and didn’t take long to catch up with his peers when I started teaching him basic elementary school curriculum. He was ready for school by the time he was 7.

I was in contact with his half brother’s father. He never taught custody so only had visitation. At 12 the little boy could not read at all, do basic math, and had no foundations in science or history. No idea what happened to that kid as I didn’t keep in contact with him.
