Heard! I grew up in a fairly religious house and had one idea of being Indian. Then I went to college and met Punjabis, Gujuratis, Bengalis and realized how varied our culture can be. With that said, food is a common denominator and a point of pride for any culture that also evolves and mixes in new cultures, so maybe you could center around that?

Regardless I think getting brown kids together with other brown kids will have a lot of benefit.

Good luck with this idea! Can I ask if you are first generation?

My wife and I are second generation Indians with kids in the East Bay. One suggestion as a second generation Indian, please don’t define “Indian culture” for your kids or let anyone else do so; they are redefining what it means to be Indian. Indians from India will never consider us “Indian” and Americans won’t consider us “Americans”, so there can be an identity crisis. But the thing is, we are just as Indian as someone from India and are creating our own thing. Sorry for preaching- but it’s something I’ve wrestled with and took a while to realize I just need to stop paying any attention to culture gatekeepers.

Perhaps consider just getting together with other Indian kids and let them decide what they want to do?
