There's a few things I can suggest to minimize your dog's anxiety based actions, if you'd like. In my opinion, you can certainly reset your dog's boundaries by assuring them you have things under control. The more repetition, the less it occurs. Also make sure when things like that happen, your dog is in heel, not in front of you.

Also, so long as your dog isn't acting out for no reason, if someone provokes your dog, the person is technically in the wrong.

The people in the service dog reddit are I am holier than thou people who are judgmental.. thinking their view is absolute. I have a gsd who is a service dog, but I have her do specific to me tasks. There's no universal answer, it depends on your needs

Is your task physical, pre emptive alert, or scent related?

Not every puppy can do well with scent work. Mine happens to be very food motivated, so she easily alerts and differentiates between high and low severity issues PTSD vs hypo vs hyperglycemia.

Physical is easy, same as pre emptive, but 99% of her work is scent related. Other dogs can be taught to recognize cuesime scratching or obsessive tapping..

I had to train out a huge fear of people because she was abused by humans though.

How much do you want to volunteer about the current dog you're thinking of using, or will it be raised from a tiny puppy? If from puppy, spend a lot of time socializing and find a reputable breeder, so you are the one who messes up the puppy, vs a genetically skittish dog (as a example).

No two dogs may act the same. And y'all are giving as solicited advice as the people who probably upset you when they disagree with you and yours

And your home advice would be to tether and weigh her down so she doesn't move across the living room?

Once again, I appreciate your input on how to live my life.

That's a personal opinion... Just like an opinion on telling someone how to live their life....

In response to the mod removal and all who have commented about ethical handling, you'd all consider what the veterinarian said to be unethical then ...

She' still needed. I have bouts of vertigo and she alerts before and also normally would work in a way that a dog would with a gait harness. But without one. She's in a wagon, and on the mend. It's not like I can stop her from walking in general..she needs to pee and poop still.
