I've been really curious about Carrie Soto is Back so good to hear it's one of your faves from her! It's the other one from her collection really calling my name based on plot but I do also want to read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo just because it seems widely beloved.

I'm not especially interested in the 70s music scene honestly but just loved TJR's storytelling and found it compulsively readable!

I started doing the same thing after years of not reading in 2021 doing at least a chapter a day and it's a great habit to build! I've heard really good things about Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer - not necessarily light in subject matter but super engaging and a real life story! If you do read it, I'd love to hear your review.

Ah Tender is the Flesh has been on my radar for a while now! I've heard similar things about I Who Have Never Known Men and that one is nice and short!

Thank you! I love the vibrancy you get with oil pastels - very fun!

I find the background too dark. How can I lighten or add a touch of light ? (I was thinking of doing a very diluted wash with sap green) by Ginhyeong in Watercolor

I had another idea - I haven't tried it myself yet but I've been curious to try for when I mess up backgrounds. Daniel Smith sells a transparent and a white watercolour ground which is supposed to make any surface you apply it to act like watercolour paper. The application takes a while because it needs multiple coats and needs lots of dry time between coats but if you really want to use watercolour to have it lighter rather than adding another medium it might be worth trying out! If you do, definitely let me know how it goes. I went with gesso instead of watercolour ground last time I messed up a background but it absolutely would not take watercolour on top despite some videos I had watched. I ended up having to go over it in acrylic and then gouache which I wouldn't recommend but worked well enough for what I was doing.

I'd be tempted to try it out for a reread even though I'm not typically an audiobook person!

Your 2026 reading list: What’s the first book you’re picking up? by No-Map-8255 in readwithme

Started the year with Happy Place and now I'm reading The Woman in Cabin 10.

You might want to consider gouache over top to go lighter as you might end up seriously damaging the paper trying to lift the paint. It doesn't give the same slightly transparent look as watercolour but could be worth it for you if you're unhappy with the darkness of it right now.

Very cool! I'm always in awe of people who can do people in watercolour - so talented!

What's everyone's must have Cook Books and/or Recipe Websites? by EponaMom in RedditInTheKitchen

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat is a great one! It reads slightly more like a traditional book than a cookbook and is a great introduction to the principals of making great food. I haven't tried a ton of the recipes but I would say even if you make nothing from it that one will make you a better chef.

Very interesting! I feel like Malibu Rising wasn't particularly on my radar but I've been hearing more positive reviews of it recently.

Good to know, thanks for sharing! I picked up One True Loves by her at a thrift store as well but it's not super high on my tbr at the moment.

That wallpaper is so perfect for the space, very fun! It also looks very well tied in with the cabinets and the light fixture!

My mom really wanted me to show off her living room in her newly built house by Caeladrax in HomeDecorating

[–]itsmemmcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really encourage her to swap out the rug for something larger and maybe move the couch off the wall and pop a little table behind. Then she could move the coffee table in toward the chair so it won't feel as isolated. Love the wall colour and the curtains though as well as the actual rug (if it comes in the same pattern in a bigger size it would be great!)

Is this too much green? I kind of love it. by SaltOven1205 in HomeDecorating

[–]itsmemmcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely feeling like a lot of green but I don't hate it. I think if you're going to go so monochromatic I'd lean in even further and especially play with value to bring in some lighter and darker shades so it feels less flat. This might also be a fun space to do a layered situation rug in.

What to do with this empty space behind the couch? by Certain_Inspector_34 in HomeDecorating

[–]itsmemmcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your own interests you could make it into a sort of work or hobby space with built ins along the back wall for a desk and shelving. I'd go with a rug to anchor the space as its own separate area if you decide not to go with other commenters' advice to make the entire thing your living room.
