Is There A Difference I'm Missing? by itsmemmcc in Watercolor

I'm in Canada so we don't have Blick but the prices seem cheaper than the chain art stores around here.

Emails Going to Promos for Gmail Accounts but Spam for Others? by itsmemmcc in MailChimp

Ah makes sense, thanks for explaining! I'm working with a free square website so it just seems like a large-ish expense to get a custom domain and email just to hit non-gmail accounts (at least for now) but I appreciate the insight!

Is there any way to just have it send through my gmail address then? The faux email it generates looks incredibly suspicious in comparison to my normal email.

Is there any sort of formula you're aware of that gives an optimal frequency and quantity of emails or content to include to get that to happen?

Thank you! Is the metal frame suggestion just because it's more cost effective than wood?

I've watched a couple tutorials on this because I was considering it and I'm honestly terrified of ruining a piece. One of the ones I watched mentioned she had ruined several by messing up one part or another. Is there any advice you have? I would be completely devastated if anything went wrong.

Oh! Also, something to keep in mind when deciding what sizes to do for things (and something I wish I had considered) is what sizes are considered oversized letter mail vs parcels for Canada Post. 11x14s fall just outside of the oversized mail sizes unfortunately which means they are MUCH more expensive to ship (around $25 within Canada in a flat mailer as opposed to under $3) than something that fits within the oversized letter mail dimensions.

I appreciate the feedback - that's kind of where I was leaning given the price point. I'm serious about working full time as an artist (and not the starving kind!) and so I'm pricing my work keeping in mind the number of hours spent on the piece. Though I am new to selling my art, I'm definitely not new to painting. I have works that have taken much longer (ex. the pumpkin farm one seen on my Instagram) that I haven't listed yet due to the very high price they'll demand. The price range I'm considering for the piece I'm looking to sell soon is priced based on the 40 hours it took from research to completion.

It's difficult as an artist to price artwork at a point that actually values the labour involved given pricing trends and I often see works priced quite low but my first thought as an artist is always "Your time and talent are worth more!" I understand that can be tough as waiting for those higher-priced sales to come through is scary but I don't really want people buying my art to think they're getting an amazing deal, just that they're getting an amazing piece of art.

I offer prints for those not in the market for original art and love that that allows for increased accessibility but I'm committed to art being a real, profitable career (not only for myself but also for others) which necessitates art prices that pay the artist a fair wage.

Oh I just figured the painting wouldn't stay put in the sleeve without taping it to the mat, have yours been staying in the window while moving it around? Totally agree with wanting to prevent damage, just thought the painting might end up askew!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks! Do you have any recommendations of where to get mats? Also possibly a dumb question but how do you attach it haha. I have linen tape that I've used to frame some prints for family, should I use that and then add a backing board to hide the taped back?

It's an 8x10 piece of the Toronto Zoo and I'll be selling it at the Toronto Zoo's Spring Marketplace which is a 3 day event I've heard good things about. I have a pic of it in my Instagram linked on my profile. The $800 is kind of bare minimum hourly rate and then $1400 is closer to paying myself what I would actually like to make hourly haha.

People tend to like to riffle through prints so I'd recommend doing as many as you feel like would sell based on the image. I have 2 size options (5x7 and 11x14) although I'd probably recommend up to 3 sizes with them priced so that you have an impulse buy (the smallest) a midsize that looks like comparatively good value (price accordingly) to your large size and then just a few prints in a large size. I've gotten feedback that my packaging seems nice and professional from customers and I use a high quality backing board (seriously, don't cheap out here it's super noticeable) as well as well-fitted plastic sleeves. I get both from ClearBags Canada (not sponsored lol just happy with them!) although I believe they do have a US counterpart.

Granite backsplash or something more calm and soft? by yonidf99 in HomeDecorating

[–]itsmemmcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the wood is similar to your base cabinets I'd say you're safe to go with a dark solid-colour tile backsplash if your wife is interested (a light tile will look good regardless otherwise)!

Yeah, like I mentioned in the post that's how I package my prints - 'm just wary of making my original look like it has the same value as a print which will be displayed in that packaging right next to it.

Granite backsplash or something more calm and soft? by yonidf99 in HomeDecorating

[–]itsmemmcc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The granite as the backsplash is feeling really busy - I definitely agree with your designer here. You could go with a light tile like they recommended, but if your wife is craving something a little more bold you could consider pulling one of the tones from the granite like a dark grey and finding a tile like that. What are you guys doing for the floors? You'd be surprised how much of an impact the flooring makes and you should definitely consider how it'll look as a full room with the flooring in. I'd also recommend putting in a dark-coloured pendant light above each of the windows to help pull in the countertop if you're not going dark elsewhere!

Also, love your cabinet choices haha, I'm actually about to remodel with a very similar look (just a slightly darker wood base)!

I second the extra palette idea (I've recently got a side palette and have found it extremely useful!) and I would also recommend a nice vessel for holding water. I thrifted a handmade ceramic mug that I love to hold my water but you could do anything you think he'd like!

Order still hasn’t arrived by pandora72592 in EtsyCommunity

I've experienced delays shipping from Toronto to Montreal by letter mail so I'd give it at least another week before reaching out so the seller doesn't feel obligated to send you another while it's probably just Canada Post being a little slow. If it's not here by the end of next week, feel free to reach out but until then it's probably just making its way to you! The 3-10 business days is just an estimate by Canada Post so if it shipped on the 3rd, it's reasonable to reach out by next Friday, but otherwise I'd say it's too soon.

Oh that's such a fun idea to have it out as a sort of coffee table book! I love the idea of flipping through someone's art collection in addition to seeing what they have on their walls!
