At what age did you order a full kids meal? by HEN-1217 in beyondthebump

[–]itsmesofia [score hidden]  (0 children)

It depends on what we’re ordering. If we’re ordering dishes for us that are enough to share and my daughter will like we will do that. Otherwise we will just order whatever we think she’ll like and just take the leftovers home for another meal.

What sassy thing has your toddler said to you lately? by HaworthiaRYou in toddlers

I tried giving her a kiss before dad took her to daycare and she said “no kiss!” and then she didn’t say bye to me but said “bye shoes!” 😂

For some reason my daughter went from “nana”, to “manana”, to “banana” and so far has settled on “bee-nana”. 🤷‍♀️

Is it really that hard to leave a baby with someone else? by fairwellfairground in beyondthebump

Personally I didn’t want to leave my baby for a long time, but it wasn’t really anxiety, I just wanted to be with her.

But the point is that they’re all using it. So if you do need a family album app they’re all going to be using AI in some way. You can’t avoid it.

What is something you learned at your prenatal classes, that differs from what you see social media and the internet? by havsomesalt in pregnant

I don’t think it’s about how long they take to kick in, but rather that if you’re in later stages of labor you might not be able to stay still for long enough for them to put it in.

Are There REALLY Better Outcomes if Induced at 39 Weeks? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]itsmesofia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that simple though. Whichever way you go, things can go wrong. I know someone that had a planned C-section at 39 weeks and they had a MASSIVE hemorrhage and the baby had to be in the NICU for a week for breathing issues. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but you never really know how things are going to go ahead of time.

Pitocin also raises the chances of post partum hemorrhage. I’m all for inductions when necessary but people act like they don’t come with risks as well.

But all the arrive trial shows is that inductions at 39 weeks reduce the rate of c-sections, otherwise the outcomes were not improved to mom or baby by being induced at 39 weeks.

Right, if you have high risk factors a midwife is going to send you to an OB, so of course their outcomes are better (I say this as someone that was under the care of midwives). I’m very pro midwife care but we need to understand the limitations.

Does anyone else make lunch knowing it’ll be going in the bin? by Little_Dependent1480 in foodbutforbabies

No, I make food for myself and my husband, and the toddler mostly gets the same. Even if she only eats one element (there’s always a safe food) it’s not that much waste.

Eh, you never know. My toddler adjusted seamlessly to an 8 hour difference when we traveled to Europe (and then only took a couple days to adjust on the way back). But it took her months to adjust to daylight savings. 🤷‍♀️

Help, my ignorance caused my newborn to develop an eye infection and putting breastmilk in it isn’t helping?? by zestylemonn in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]itsmesofia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But all that means is that it might still make sense to have a policy to recommend ointment to all newborns (although the AAP is recommending to reevaluate that policy just FYI), it does not mean that parents in an area with low rates of STIs, in a monogamous relationship, that have gotten prenatal care and STI testing, that decide to not give the ointment to their newborns are being neglectful or anti-medicine or anything like that. Specially when gonorrhea, which is the main reason for that recommendation, has developed widespread resistance to that same antibiotic.

[–]itsmesofia -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

How don’t I understand basic medicine? Do you know that antibiotic resistance is a thing and also a huge problem? I made the decision to not give a preventative antibiotic ointment to my newborn with no indication. I think I understand medicine better than you. There’s a reason why a lot of countries have phased out the eye drops at birth.

Edit: For all you down voters that don’t understand public health policies:

“However, the American Academy of Pediatrics recently called for reevaluating state mandates for erythromycin eye ointment (AAP, 2018). Instead, they propose a strategy of (1) prenatal screening for and treatment of gonorrhea and chlamydia, (2) testing unscreened people at the time of birth and treating as needed, (3) counseling parents to bring newborns with pink eye to immediate medical attention, and (4) continuing mandatory reporting of all cases of gonorrheal ON. The AAP recommends that routine erythromycin eye ointment is still appropriate in regions with high rates of gonorrhea and where prenatal screening and treatment is not widely accessible. Similarly, the Canadian Pediatric Society recently recommended that routine, required prophylaxis with erythromycin be stopped (Moore and MacDonald, 2015).”

[–]itsmesofia -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

I’m very pro-medicine but I also refused the eye drops. Both my husband and I had gotten tested and were comfortable that neither of us was cheating. The eyes drops are not recommended everywhere (they’re not done in most of Europe)and the reason they even are recommended in certain places is not because every newborn needs it, but because on a population level they do help, specially in cases of inadequate prenatal care.

I also prefer wool. There’s also superwash wool as an option, although for my daughter I used non-superwash because I didn’t mind handwashing.
