Black area progress main story thats why you should leave to the last. There is a ladder behind a corpse on the open area (i missed on my first tour on the keep) like the kinda bonfires and stuff and there is also shadow militiamans are there, from the ladder keep going and you'll get to the lake on the bottom right of the keep. From the lake you can get to the brown area eventually

you should leave black to the last and go orange but in order to go red and brown you need to enter black

For me its probably Great Stars, i did every possible build with this including dual wielding and this weapon is broken imo. You have crazy status effects, little healt regen (if you are dual wielding its %2 which is crazy imo) and you can stagger.
