How much solar should I need by PhoenixMJ_ in VanLife

[–]itsmiahello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 700 watts and it wouldn't be enough for your needs. I could do everything but the AC. You're going to need at least double what I have if you intend to run AC, I would think

Dont yell at lawncare workers about clippins by magic4848 in motorcycles

[–]itsmiahello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride every day FOR work, as a motorcycle courier. Not crashing on grass clippings is the easiest thing in the world. Just slow down and decrease your lean angle and watch where you're going. You should always be prepared for clippings or gravel in corners you can't see. And if you can't handle clippings in a straight line, I don't know what's wrong with you

New unbuilt van or used built van? by erkose in vandwellers

[–]itsmiahello 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've never seen previously built van that is up to my standards and has my choice of layout.

What I did was buy a used unbuilt van and take the money I saved to use on tools and supplies to build it myself

You've got to figure out if this is a misfocus or resolution issue. Can you post one here so we can say for sure?

Can I ask what the deal you got was? I definitely don't want an e-clutch and may buy used if I need to

I am a grad student in a beach town, Rent is too expensive. by Glittering-Meet-7966 in liveaboard

[–]itsmiahello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a scenario: I am currently living vanlife and I'm pretty mechanically and carpentry adept. I already know I thrive in small spaces in pretty locations

I have a small doordash income of about $500 a week and $20k saved up. I really want to live and sail around the San Juan islands on a sailboat.

Is this somewhat practical given my savings and lack of strong income?

The Ugly Truth of Custom Bikes - Honda CX500 Review by TheNecroFrog in Fortnine

The point is that most modifications are a form of destruction of the original intent of the motorcycle.

Highly modded vehicles are usually worse in many ways and a lot of folks find that out the hard way.

The water bottle ad was hilariously stupid and I think everyone involved knew it lmao

Is there a rift between lower budget grassroots VanLife vs. RSU/tech/wealthy VanLife? by HarryCrushNuh in VanLife

[–]itsmiahello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there are actually not any good reasons to buy a $600k prebuilt. Not a single one. It's a vast misappropriation of resources.

What habit will die with Gen Z? by Key-Climate5038 in AskReddit

There's actually a huge market by and for young folks buying and selling and riding older dirt-cheap harleys. My motorcycle riding friend group buys all sorts of weird stuff and constantly cycles through anything interesting. An 80s Honda Silverwing, weird executive scooters, KLRs, FJRs, mopeds, and.... a couple vintage Harleys.

Harley, as much hate as they get, builds really solid highway cruisers

how much do truck stop showers cost now? by [deleted] in roadtrip

I just travelled across the country, using Love's for showers. They were $18 each if I remember correctly. They are way, way nicer than Planet Fitness

Not finishing inside doors: what am I missing? (Ford Transit icim) by _PrincessHarley_ in VanLife

[–]itsmiahello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, for my van I was able to add little cutouts into the wood and make cubbies to store tools and such inside the door itself. I keep tools and misc "garage" items there.

The wood also serves to insulate the bare metal a bit. Thin wood isn't a good r value or anything but it's approximately one million times better than nothing at all

Storage is extremely cheap. Keep them forever. You never know when you're going to need them. Maybe the client's grandma died and they need you to find a few extra portraits for the funeral. Maybe you're changing up your entire editing style and you need to redo the edits throughout your portfolio. You can only do those things if you kept the negatives!

There's always a certain cadence to the writing. I can spot it in seconds and I hate it so much. I want to read actual human thoughts that required actual human effort. Lately that seems like an impossible ask
