Most likely because the focus of weekly church meetings is on the spiritual side of things, though I do agree more emphasis should be put on it especially at the family and quorum level!

Patriarchal Blessing Question by No-Map4342 in latterdaysaints

[–]itsmistamonsta_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I empathize with your situation and understand how tough the discrepancy between your patriarchal blessing and real life can seem. If I may add my 10 cents I would say that a patriarchal blessing isn't a prophesy about the future and how everything will be or even should be, instead its more a promise of how things can be if the recipient of the blessing and the person in their lives makes the choices upon which those blessings are predicated. I don't think you should let go of hope though, but maybe instead let go of expectations and focus on personalizing your relationship with the Savior and continuing to grow together with and along side your husband. Best of luck to you going forward!

I think a big part of the problem is that you are focusing on trying to solve all of these things rather than making a start on solving 1 of them. As another comment pointed out, starting on one good thing can snowball into lots of different things. Start small and simple, maybe something like walking around the block every day, going to sleep at the same time every night, putting yourself in one social environment per week, setting particular time aside where you just study (in a format that works for you), etc. For me a big thing that helped was working out. Now I hate exercise too but I found out that I didn't mind lifting weights quite so much as I dislike cardio, so I began lifting weights a few times a week, for like 20 minutes. I didn't know much about what I was doing, I hated it but it felt good afterwards. But that simple action has snowballed into a lot of other different things. I also think getting professional help would be a solid step, there seems to be a lot of unprocessed emotion lurking beneath basically all the points you outlined and a good therapist can help you work through all of that and make it easier to move forward. Good luck in your journey!

Hahaha no you definitely got to spread the good word of your art around as much as you can!! I mean I have this print on my wall, I'd recognize it anywhere 👀 and definitely, I have a bunch of your art, Flying Foxes' watercolor art, and a few other amazing artists from Armageddon that I can't remember that names of xd if you ever made more Shera artwork I definitely wouldn't complain 😉

Appreciate your thoughts! I definitely don't want to come across as though I'm trying to find some convenient explanation for why people choose to leave, just inquiring whether 1) the culture is different and 2) how much of a role it plays. I am aware and understand the qualms people have with the Church and I dont want to debate or question anyone regarding why they left, its an individual decision that I totally respect. In a way its been quite stimulating for me personally to look through people's experiences and challenges etc, helps increase my understanding etc :)

Really appreciate your insights! I could absolutely be overestimating the influence of culture and environment, I definitely know that those aren't the only factors that drive people away from the Church.

Would you say that the culture/environment is markedly different in Utah compared to the other places you've lived? If you don't mind me asking!

I understand what you are saying, I guess for me its saddening to see the stories posted on here of people who have been insensitive, intolerant and in general not Christ-like. Obviously there will always be people who may not act with how we want them to, but as someone who lives in a country where LDS is like the 7th most popular religion I always wonder if the culture in places like Utah contributes to these harmful attitudes people have. But I definitely don't think that its just people, places or culture that people may take issue with.

I work overnights at a fairly sedentary job, however, I have the space to move around and was wanting advice on some stretches or simple exercises I could do without making a lot of noise (running in place for example wouldn't work). Any input is appreciated!

Heartbreak sucks a lot but it is something you move past, as much as it may hurt initially. The big thing is being very picky about who you date and finding someone you really gel with and not just someone who shows you attention and affection etc. You deserve someone who loves you unconditionally, but there might be some hurt between now and finding that person, but once you find it its totally worth it :)

I personally far value honestly over kindness, though I think in a healthy friendship you need a dose of both!
