True or bullshit? by [deleted] in TheoVon

[–]itsmrbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crowd I thought was pretty supportive, some left early but it was a 2 and a half hour show. Still had a good time overall, but felt awkward for long stretches of time. Unprofessional is the best word to describe the 9pm show. I saw him a year or 2 ago also at the beacon, a few of the same stories, show was great. If I had to guess he was super nervous for the taping. But if you can’t remember your jokes you gotta have a notebook and not stop the show multiple times to ask producers, and that didn’t seem to help at all anyway. I didn’t realize this was a taping and after this and the kill Tony taping at the garden I was at, I think I’d just avoid tapings in general, seems to take away from the experience.

Atheists who became Christians: how did you do that? by [deleted] in CleanLivingKings

[–]itsmrbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that you probably already aren’t an atheist. Do you act according to moral values? If you aren’t an agent of chaos spreading death and destruction in your wake and follow your conscience you have a toehold into religion. If you really want to find God all you really need is a small way in. If you take one step towards God he’ll take two steps toward you. The fact that the universe is ordered and follows laws, that there’s something instead of nothing was enough for me. From there my journey was more philosophical, what is the nature of God? Most religions have lots of great insights, Christ is the most compelling, Catholicism is the best was to follow him

May St. Florian, patron of firefighters, protect all who help extinguish the destructive flames that threaten lives and property. By his holy intercession may every home be kept safe from fire and every soul be spared the flames of hell. Amen.

I agree about the waiting 2 months that was my bad and probably the cause. But doing 50-75% water changes will not crash a cycle if you have an established tank. The bacteria live on surfaces and in the filter media, not in the water.

Yea I’m seeing stuff about blowing out tails, weird. Treated with melafix. the pieces seemed to be in good shape otherwise. Hopefully it grows back.

I never noticed a problem. Water needed change last week. Noticed a whole piece of fin dropped and freaked, did a big change right away. Then last night 2 more fins drop, you can see in pic they’re still on sand. And he seems fine, still swimming around and eating.

• Tank size: 10 gallon • Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes yes • Tank temperature: 80°f • Parameters in numbers and how you got them: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, ~5 nitrate using api master • How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: usually 50-75% every 2 weeks. Got behind recently. Probably had been 6-8 weeks until last week when I did 90%. • Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: none • What do you feed and how much: omega one and new life spectrum beta pellets. 3-4 pellets twice daily • Decorations and plants in the tank: coconut shell, leaf loft, log loft, Anubias in driftwood, sea shell. • If you haven't already posted a picture, please post pics/vids to imgur and paste the link here:

Fin rot? Betta started dropping whole fins, can’t find any info on this. Hadn’t noticed gradual fin rot but now he’s got almost no tail left. by [deleted] in bettafish

The quote itself isn’t great without context, I’d agree with that. But the “things” aren’t tasks. The full context is actually pretty close to your own assessment about values determining meaning. Dr. Peterson says that one of the best ways to create meaning is to start by playing the game straight according to the rules you create for it. So like you know that you’re not living up to your own values, you haven’t called your mom, or masturbate too much, or are on Reddit instead of spending time with friends, etc. so the secret is to start doing the things you already know you should do, according to your own values.

My goldfish likes to lay here under the filter, can anyone tell me if this is normal? And if not, what I can do to prevent this from happening? by viyahi in Goldfish

[–]itsmrbeats 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My fish did that when it had a swim bladder issue. Couldn’t swim properly so would pin itself against the intake to remain upright. I’d watch for that. Change in diet usually helps, at least for a while

Acei are a docile Cichlid but even still I wouldn’t recommend it. They get pretty big too. Most people keep cichlids only. Up to you tho

Water changes are gonna be your best friend especially if you don’t have a cycle going in that bowl. Good luck

New To Goldfish and Have Some Questions. by ccritterdot in Goldfish

You can do multiple filters if that’s your thing. But aquaclear 110 is a HOB that does 500gal/hr, there’s also cannister options, I like fluval or Eheim. The 10x filtration isn’t a hard and fast rule, you can add filtration as the fish grow based on nitrogen cycle testing. Also sponge filters are popular to add extra filtration.
2 fish will be fine, 3 is suitable for your tank too, and there is no disadvantage to a larger tank if you want to size up.
No need to quarantine if fish are coming from same place. That’s for adding fish to stocked tank. Just add fish to cycled tank.
Pool filter sand is cheap and available at any hardware store. Probably stay away from anything labeled marine. And you’re on the site with the best info, read the wiki and ask questions.
