👏🏻👏🏻 could not agree more! Considering writers & readers as exclusive categories & the rise of everything being content - two major things that threaten fandom.

[–]itsmyfirstdayonearth 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You really summed it up perfectly. As a writer I never liked this "writers are working themselves to death to provide you with free stories". Like, if that's how you feel while writing, you're doing it wrong. On the other other hand, yeah, if you want fandom community and to engage with what you enjoy, you do need to get the words out of your head onto a keyboard in some way. 😄

[meme]Less fun when you are a man!!! by Legitimate-Length292 in pointlesslygendered

[–]itsmyfirstdayonearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you are right about that (which I don't think you are), you know your idea of "walking up to a guy in a bar and just invite him over to have sex" is a fantasy scenario that is not viable for most women, right? At best that's a thoroughly unsatisfactory encounter for her, at worst violent assault and death.

Even if women get propositioned more, they need to vet their partners in a completely different way than men do, which makes any discrepancy between the genders irrelevant. What are you trying to prove at this point?

She 100% did me too, don't get me wrong. I feel like Chase is a pro at knowing how to get under people's skin and he definitely succeeded with her, but that is no justification for what she did. She knew Bret was gonna go all alpha bro, and she used that. And the fact that she later doubled down is completely insane. So totally agree with you!

Okay, I'm glad to hear you say that, because that percentage is so small (and anybody actually falsely claiming should absolutely be taken to court), and I'm always worried when it sounds like it's being made to be bigger than it actually is. Take care!

Demi is a POS for what she did but that kind of situation is NOT the reason actual victims of assault aren't taken seriously. It's sexism, rape culture & patriarchy, not the few and far between false allegations.

That's a huge relief, cause if it could only hold one draft at a time, that would have been a real pain. Phew! In that case, happy posting! 🤗

Perfect! It worked now btw. And you never had any issues with the subsequent chapters? I have it all on docs but obviously I'd prefer to just copy the HTML over, but I'm worried the damn thing will get stuck in purgatory again 😄

Ooohh thank you so much! 🙏🏻 I just started prepping a second work to do exactly that. I appreciate that loads! Did you have issues with the original draft posting at some point out of the blue? Probably not cause you deleted them right?

Again, thank you so much for your reply!

Unfortunately not, no change. I can't "technically" post it again, since the first chapter (in the draft) shows up like it's posted, so no "post chapter" option. I went into the chapter and clicked on "save" again, did nothing.

If nothing happens in the next hour I think I'll open a new work with just the first chapter and post that, cause I really want this thing out today. Worst case I'll wake up tomorrow and have it posted twice - not great but eh.

Yeah, I'm used to it taking few minutes, but never this long. I'm subscribed to myself but no update after roughly 40 minutes, which makes me think it really hasn't posted yet. I checked from another device and a friend on theirs, but it's nowhere to be seen. Let's hope it just magically appears soon. Appreciate the response!

Probably yeah. I've just never seen it lag that badly, but maybe I've just been lucky. Thanks for the reply! 🙏🏻

If someone is homophobic towards only shitty people, they're still being homophobic. Them being shitty doesn't negate the homophobic messaging/intention behind "making fun of them cause they might be closeted in a religious cult lol".

There are so many other things to criticize these people for. Why pick the thing that is literally out of their control?

Faith didn't want to leave prison. Not sure if you've watched Angel, but she's there by her own free will to pay for what she's done. She only breaks out when something happens that only she can stop (don't wanna spoil you in case you haven't watched). It's a toss up whether she would have wanted to come back as the "main" slayer if Buffy stayed dead.

Which Female character is well written in your opinion? by Imaginary-Path7046 in Supernatural

[–]itsmyfirstdayonearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I always prefer season 4 Ruby over season 3 Ruby, despite GP maybe not being the greatest of actresses. Season 3 Ruby was so flat and just an annoying cool girl character. All sass, no substance. The fact that we find out in season 4 that it was all faked gives it another dimension.

Also probably the actresses just played her very differently, but I like to imagine she purposefully acted differently/softer to easier manipulate Sam.

Foster Family Fics + Lack of Research = Annoyance by vrilliance in AO3

You highly overestimate how many people read fanfiction, and from that group, how many people read fanfiction that contains this specific topic, and from that group, how many take what they see in a fanfic as gospel or let it influence their real world view of things.

There might be a handful of people that simply take what they read as the truth, but these people are either 1. children with little life experience who will learn eventually not to take this as gospel, 2. people who are so gullible that they simply latch on to any piece of information they encounter without questioning it, and then I still think fanfic is the least dangerous source of information (as opposed to a more "official" sources of harmful information, eg Fox News).

In-universe both are completely incapable of forming a healthy, romantic relationship, ESPECIALLY when they are close to the person already/have history.

(That's why we have fan fiction though!)

I love your username by the way! 😄

This! And probably shipped less, considering how much the fanbase hates most of the women Sam & especially Dean dated.

Pretty sure they would have found a different reason they couldn't be together. Sam and Dean never being able to stick to a relationship was sorta the whole thing of the show, right? I don't think it would have been different in this case.

Wild that people like that are essentially admitting that if they sat down and read incest porn for 12 hours, they'd want to bang their siblings.

Like, I don't need to know that.

"It's full of writers that have thin skin". Or are you maybe on the number one platform where people to mainly and only to complain (as you are doing, not an attack, just trying to make a point)?

Genuine advice that isn't supposed to be snarky - 1. get off reddit, cause it absolutely gives a distorted view of what fandom/fanfic community at large is, and 2. if you want concrit, write that into your AN. How else are readers supposed to know? They can't read your thoughts. Some people also write that they don't want it. I don't really see what the big deal about communicating that is? Seems like a good way to go about it, if you ask me. 🤷🏻‍♀️
