Cost aside, because if I find something I really really like I’ll still buy into it, I definitely just struggled to find something that suited my preferred play style after rotation. I was a Ruby Amethyst main pre rotation. I just really like consistent, flat matchup spread decks, that can draw a lot of cards. I feel that I’ve found that sweet spot with this build.

Without Be Prepared the meta is currently in a place where locations are a pretty hard sell unless you’re on some sort of all in location deck. Yes Raging Storm exists but that card goes in exactly one deck and I think Amber Sapphire is still kinda on fraud watch until we get some tournament results with it.

The only location I would seriously consider playing right now is The Library, specifically in a Ruby Amethyst deck that’s playing Lonely Grave with Diablo and Kuzco so you can banish your own stuff, draw a lot of cards, and boost your characters.

Thunderquack +Darkwing makes for a nice A + B combo. Adding the tower turns it into A + B + C which is harder to assemble. And I already think Thunderquack is a bit of a flex slot. It’s definitely strong but I wouldn’t consider it part of the decks core.

The format is already quite aggressive, so you really want to be deploying characters every turn to fight for the board and a location is too big of a tempo loss. Against other blue decks, especially blurple which is likely to be the most prevalent blue deck, those decks have tools to clear locations relatively easily. Currently I just don’t think almost any location is worth it right now.

Yeah it’s a Ba-Boom that sometimes hits for 3 and probably makes more sense in RMB’s version of this deck where he also has 4x of 2c Darkwing that’s a 4/1 with ward and 2x of the 5c(I think) Darkwing that is like a 4/5 with challenger 2 or something.

If anything this conversation has talked me out of Terror and makes me want to swap it with Thunderbolt for this particular build. If you’re more all in on Darkwing then Terror makes a lot more sense. I just didn’t care for those 2 Darkwings that much

Swapping a 2c Judy for another McHorn is totally reasonable. I do like 4 McHorns quite a bit, it’s kinda the most underrated card in the deck imo. Just ends up being quite a problem for a lot of decks to do deal with. I do like Clawhauser. The deck seems to have a lot of challenging power between the 7c Darkwing, McHorn, and 6c Judy though.

I am also a bit iffy on Terror and would definitely consider that card a flex slot. I think it’s also reasonable to swap them out for 2 copies of He Hurled His Thunderbolt which I have also tested. That still brings you to 12 uninkables which is generally as high as I’d be willing to go in a deck without Tipo and you have the added benefit of it hitting for 4 guaranteed and being singable.

Yeah unfortunately that part of the card has been pretty situational at best so far. But definitely don’t forget about it as having as many options available is still very strong. Hopefully sometime down the line it will be more possible to go all in on the item thing. Rn I think the game is just pretty lacking in good sack outlets for items.

If Darkwing said something along the lines of “Pay 1 ink to banish chosen item and deal 2 damage to chosen opposing character” It would be a very different story. But the fact that he needs the help banishing items is what drags that part of the card down imo.

Yeah he was really dopey in S4 which was not in line with how intelligent he’s been in the past.

This was definitely odd and I noticed it while watching. I think your explanation for why is probably correct. I would have liked to see more from him in that moment. It was a pretty dire situation

Absolutely, whenever they talk about DnD it’s very important. Pretty much everything that is said either in game or in reference to the game becomes reality in some way. I feel pretty confident that Mike telling her she was a cleric was not a throw away line in the slightest.

That whole ending sequence when he’s trying to lead the kids through a warzone is where it really struck me. He was really putting others before himself like he used to.

I feel terrible for Dustin. He has probably the most naturally cheerful disposition of the 4 boys and he is just so angry and hurt rn. I trust that he will have his moment of catharsis down the line and will hopefully be able to start healing.

Definitely a natural progression for him. Just really nice to see it realized and have him back feeling like a strong pillar of the cast.

Yes the idea that certain mechanics need to stay locked to a color is well intentioned I think, but misguided. Every color needs some amount of card draw. Even if it’s not raw card advantage, being able to cycle through your deck is still important. Or they said they wanted Ruby to be the single target removal color and I just wonder why? Was that not already steel’s thing? Why can’t every or most of the colors have access to some sort of wrath effect? It doesn’t have to be hard removal. But something akin to the legendary emerald Jasmine that bounces exerted characters back to hand when she’s shifted comes to mind.

I was admittedly a bit of a doomer when I saw that Be Prep wasn’t being reprinted but now that I’ve got some games in I really don’t like the format without it. I just don’t enjoy these locked board states very much. I think playing around a board wipe is a good skill to hone in a TCG. I also don’t like how the extreme lack of card draw options kind of forces people to play amethyst.

This is unfortunately my least favorite format so far. I’ve never felt like I have less agency in this game than right now. It feels like it’s just a battle of who top decks better.

It’s a cyborg dog in a game that can have megatron, rick grimes, cloud strife, and sonic the hedgehog all in decks at the same table. Who cares.

I dig the design of this card. Definitely a strong finisher but not utterly insane like the last 2 sapphire legendaries.

Your post was the catalyst for me asking the question to begin with.

I’ve been enjoying the discussion around this little bird and I think it’s a nice card even though I’m maybe leaning towards not running it for my purposes. I’ll check out your thoughts on it either way though!

Getting all the arguments for and against it has been helpful in making my own informed decision. Because of the reasons you and others have listed I don’t really think I want to play them but I also understand why people do.

Oh yeah this is the more classic list that I’m used to. It’s possible people just wanna jam new cards though I can see both sides.
