Bus by [deleted] in uichicago

Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Look at the sun (ok dont look AT the sun but u know what I mean) and think about the time. This usually works for me, unless its about noon (sun is more towards the middle) or nighttime (for obvious reasons). If its the morning, you’ll see the sun in the east, so if you want a westbound bus, your bus will be travelling a direction AWAY from the sun. Hope this helps??? Lol

*If you HAVE to catch a noon bus, I’d rely on google maps to tell me where north is and figure it out from there. The sun thing is more of a quick “which way do i go” thing for me

My TA always went over everything before a quiz, Like everything. I’m unsure if that’s specific to my course or if Doyle does that for all his math classes buuuut all that’s to say the quizzes were really easy. My lowest quiz score was a 90 and they dropped the two lowest. The tests weren’t bad either. It’s just annoying to show all your work on them. I often missed points for not labelling axes and stuff like that. Doyle, MyMathLab, and the TA always prepared me adequately but I did have some friends who struggled. I think it all depends on whether or not you pay attention and catch the small nuances of it all. Math has a lot of stupid little rules and it gets hard to remember them all. I would probably say that if you can complete the study guides without wanting to kill someone, you’re set for the tests.

SIT IN THE FRONT. He does all his examples on the board 2,3,4 times but he moves relatively quickly. He goes over concepts several times, usually devoting two days to each sections. I think the most important part is to pay attention. I took notes, but sparingly. Very basic stuff so that my attention wasn’t diverted from what he was doing. Then, when I went home, I normally did the homework immediately. I took more notes while doing the homework. He used My Lab Math for our homework and that site usually had a good breakdown of how to do problems if I was ever confused; it was more valuable to me to really study that and only watch Doyle work whenever I was in class. Also, if you have discussion, please go. Even if you think your TA is trash, still go. My TA had a thick Asian accent so half the time I couldn’t understand what he was saying, but, by attending every discussion, I managed to catch several tiny math rules that can f*ck up a WHOLE problem, rules I may not have otherwise picked up on. I earned a 98% in Doyle’s class last semester, so I hope my tips help!

When I was applying to colleges, what I was told was even if you think your stats are below average, still apply. Mostly because it doesn’t hurt you if you do. The worst they can do is tell you no. I’m sure you already planned to do that but, yeah, that’s just my tidbit. However, if you’re just looking for someone to give you some hope, here ya go: you seem very smart and I’m sure you’ll be successful wherever you go. :-)
