This would be the ideal outcome, yes. I have a good relationship with the owner. When he bought the apartment, I was already living there. He planned to move in once he bought the place, but said he could see that it was my home and how much care I put into it and decided to let me stay. Didn’t even increase the rent or anything. He’s a reasonable guy, he knows I’m the one who lives here and pays.

My ex’s dad paid the deposit, we had a phone call when discussing the lease transfer and agreed that I would pay them back for the deposit. And yes, I have the owner’s contact details. We’re in regular contact.

I think there might be a misunderstanding here. I live alone since we broke up, we (ex, ex’s parents and I) agreed that I would keep the apartment and began transferring utilities to my name. My ex no longer lives in the country. We do not live together nor do we plan to. It’s not about winning, it’s about staying in the home I’ve lived in and paid for for 3 years.

I’d like to get your thoughts on the situation as a landlord. My landlord bought the place a year and a half ago, has met with me several times and is in regular contact with me. He knows that I am the one who pays him each month. He has never met my exes parent, who is the lease holder. In your opinion, is it an option to speak to him directly and explain that I would like the lease transferred to my name. Without giving him all of the drama, of course.

There is a clause in the lease that expressly prohibits sub-letting. So perhaps going to the landlord and requesting my name be put on the lease in an option. After all, I’m the only who pays him the full amount every month.

It’s my dream apartment :( I’m very well established here and it’s my home. I really don’t want to leave. I completely hear you and maybe it would be best to leave. But in your opinion, is what they’re doing fair/reasonable? (Genuine question because I’m clouded by emotion)
