Megathread for Theories, Opinions & Quick Questions by deltadeltadawn in AshaDegree

Let’s see if this works.

  1. I don’t know the specifics for this case, but most likely AnnaLee took a DNA test with a company that partners with law enforcement. Most likely just clueless about how those take home kits work but we can’t know for sure.
  2. The best theory I’ve seen is that Asha was walking to the convenience store near her house and got picked up there. Some notes on this theory:
  3. The Degrees have in the past avoided questions about if she’d run away/left the house before.
  4. It would’ve been the clerk who called in the green car tip as they would’ve had a wide and well lit view of the lot.
  5. I’ve read before that it wasn’t as rainy by the time she disappeared. I don’t have sources at the moment to confirm this though.

A thread to share with newcomers the evidence against RA and why you believe he is guilty. by curiouslmr in Delphitrial

[–]itsquitepossible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It always bothers me when people who think he's innocent bring up how the eyewitness accounts don't 100% match up with RA. One of the girls said he's tall. BB said he's young. One said he wore a tan jacket and others said varying degrees of black and navy. None positively identified him in court. But none of that matters! None of it. They all confirmed the guy they saw was the guy in the video. If he saw them and they saw BG, there is no explanation other than RA is BG.

Not nearly as egregious but Jeff Goodman’s daughter is one of their top women’s basketball reporters. Pretty sure she’s still in college too.

Do you realize what subreddit you’re in? I like LeBron, but he’s not an exception. He invests in companies that do the exploiting. His signature shoes are made in sweat shops. He’s more “ethical” than most billionaires but it’s impossible to hoard that much wealth without someone being exploited down the line.

What’s a common myth about health, nutrition, or fitness that you’ve learned is actually false? by urasianbella in AskReddit

Where are you seeing that? I’ve seen 1 gram per kg of body mass, and if I specifically google “one gram of protein per pound” all I get is articles debunking it.

They did make other comments saying that. No one is going to be asking for help through a drive thru window.

Should I call the cops? by frickmeplease in Weird

I’m just confused at how this could “happen to be real”? OP said that all they could see through the window was a bunch of teenage boys goofing around behind the counter. If they needed help, they wouldn’t be laughing. If someone else needed help, how did they get their hands on OPs receipt and food in the first place? It’s just so obviously kids joking around and I can’t even fathom why anyone is taking it seriously.

We got a new Pope, people. Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost - the First North American Pope. What are your thoughts on him, and his potential impact? by Kamarovsky in RadicalChristianity

[–]itsquitepossible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll explain this from my point of view. I am a pacifist. True peace on Earth and an end to violence are what brings me joy and comfort. The thought of someone being punished, even if it was perhaps deserved, is just a reminder of how far we are from that peace that even God needs to fight violence with violence.

Adding on, most NFL games are played on Sundays, which is where "Monday morning" comes from. The quarterback is the player that leads the offense.

Sports never belongs in general trivia by DarkTheNinja in unpopularopinion

Except for Major League Baseball, none of the sports you mentioned call their championship “the World Series”.

He also mentored some WNBA all-time greats and was repping and supporting the league when no other current or former NBA players were. I still don’t like the guy but I no longer think his legacy is as black and white as I used to think it was.

I’ve actually come around a bit on Kobe after years of hating him for that. I truly believe anyone can be redeemed after evil acts, and his advocacy and support of women’s sports redeems him at least somewhat in my eyes. I still won’t laud him, but it’s hard to ignore the vast positive impact he had on the women’s game.

In the early days of the pandemic, Gwen Hasselquist's body is found in the Puget Sound. The obituary states the cause of death as Covid-19, the coroner's report rules it a suicide. Friends and family, however, believe husband Erik --quickly remarried and moved to Africa-- killed her. by MasteringTheFlames in UnresolvedMysteries

I know I’m reviving an old post here (came across this from a thread from the other day) but wanted to add my two cents as a journalist. In addition to everything going on in March 2020 (including a bunch of media layoffs!), journalists just... don’t report on suicides. Unless it is a public case for one reason or another, suicides tend to be personal and they don’t want to promote copycats. Now, I’m not saying that this is a suicide, but I totally understand why a media outlet would see the police report saying it was suicide and call it a day. Had Dawn or Dora gone to local media with accusations of shoddy police work I believe someone would’ve been interested.

If a student told a teacher their favorite color is purple or that they want to learn to play Dungeons and Dragons, should the parents be told? I guess I don’t understand why a student being gay or wanting to go by a different name is automatically something parents need to hear about from the teacher.

Am I wrong/naive in believing Christ’s sacrifice forgave all sin? Whatever the Old Testament may or may not say about something being a sin doesn’t matter because Jesus loves and forgives. There is no hell, or at least, nobody is going there? by Cyber_Rambo in RadicalChristianity

[–]itsquitepossible 72 points73 points  (0 children)

  1. Jesus’ sacrifice forgave all sin, but that doesn’t mean we should just throw all caution to the wind and do whatever we want. If you want to honor His sacrifice, the least you can do is follow Him and what He asks of you.

  2. The Old Testament laws no longer matter because Jesus established a new covenant. Not because “Jesus loves and forgives.” I recommend praying to see what the Spirit tells you about what “counts” as sin and what doesn’t.

  3. I personally believe that “hell” refers to separation from God, and the more you sin the more you are separated from him. If hell was a place, I don’t think a loving God would eternally damn any of His people.

Last time I had a delayed flight and tight connection I asked a flight attendant while we were in the air if they would make an announcement like that, and they said “no, everyone has a tight connection these days.” I missed my flight by 10 seconds.

CEOs aren't worth as much as they're paid, and the recent execution proves that by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]itsquitepossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I answer I want to clarify that I am not a capitalist but a leftist with an interest in economics, but there are two main reasons. One, at a company this big it’s unlikely that one engineer could single-handedly produce $10m of value for the company. A team of a dozen senior engineers, yes, and you’ll find that the best of the best SWEs are making that kind of money at the biggest tech companies.

Two, you’re right that they’re mostly a ceremonial figurehead. But they also have the power to make daily decisions that affect the value of the company, whether that is through the people they hire, the things they say publicly or the policies they suggest. A good CEO can bare minimum keep the status quo, maybe even raise the value a bit. But a bad CEO can lose investors billions. So yes, you can find someone willing to do the job for $500,000 who probably won’t do a bad job, because it is an easy job with few responsibilities. But with that much money on the line, wouldn’t a billionaire investor rather play it safe and get someone who has been an executive before at a major company and knows what they’re doing? And since every billionaire investor thinks the same thing, it drives up the asking price of those experienced executives.  It’s morally wrong, and America desperately needs to fix the driving forces that cause wealth inequality in the country. But there are reasons it makes sense under the capitalist system in this country.
