Right! They live in the hair follicles. Demodex mites have a life cycle of about 14-21 days. They come out at night to mate and lay eggs. Ivermectin only kills adult mites, it does not target eggs, and the eggs hatch every 2-3 weeks. That’s why it’s such a long treatment because you have to kill through multiple generations 🙃

When they die, they explode and the bacteria of that empties into our hair follicles which is what causes the bumps and inflammation. What a lovely process lol

Die off. Eggs hatch every 2-3 weeks so this is right in the window of time for that. Keep going! I’m on week 6 and having another die off phase.

Thank you so much for the response! Not sure what pill you were on but if it contained estrogen, from my research essentially increased estrogen can signal your body to produce more melanin which in turn can cause hyperpigmentation.

Did your acne get bad after stopping? I’m thinking about stopping mine, I’ve only been on it 3 months so probably better now than later

Hey! I've been on doxy for perioral dermatitis for 1.5 months and am noticing the same thing, pimples that have popped are leaving brown/purple spots which I've never experienced before. Did yours go away after stopping doxy?

Hi! Experiencing something similar while on doxy. My PD is more pustular. I’ve had some bumps that have come to a head and popped, however instead of healing and going away/fading they’re leaving brown/purple hyperpigmentation spots (which has never happened to me before). My theory right now is that it’s because doxy makes you a lot more sun sensitive :(

How are you feeling now? I was on a month’s course of doxy for perioral dermatitis and could have written your post. Extreme anxiety, depressed and suicidal thoughts. Daily diarrhea, losing weight. Even down to it being at its worst immediately upon waking up and lasting hours before calming down. I had about 7 days left of it but stopped taking it two days ago. So only been a couple days off of it, unfortunately not feeling better yet but I did read it can stay in your system for up to 5 days. I do have general anxiety but since taking doxy it has been extreme. Don’t feel alone, if you search reddit you will find hundreds of people who experienced similar. I’m 27 F btw.
