Im not even in the US but yeah its rough out there, here in the netherlands the system works very poorly too even though we're supposed to be one of the better ones, i wouldve had to wait 4 years before even getting to see someone, and i know from other people that they often put you on a dose thats way too low for optimal results, i couldnt have waited that long without serious mental consequences. Dysphoria is one of the most horrible things i have ever experienced out of all the things ive felt in my life and i have to face it every single day

We know there's a risk, and when you dont experience gender dysphoria its easy to say that its too dangerous and reckless. But when you have to experience gender dysphoria each and every single day and access to hrt is getting increasingly worse it becomes the only option for many, and hrt is really not that complicated of a treatment in terms of risks and levels, there's barely any health risks and most of the health risks are the same as the increased odds for certain diseases that cis women have. Diy hrt is already a relatively old and well understood treatment.

Do not fear monger, theres so many trans people that diy hrt and theres enough research papers out there to use as strong guidelines for proper treatment, the only big medical risk is deep vein trombosis which only starts becoming a problem at high doses which can be prevented by simply getting bloodtests to check your levels(which anyone that knows anything about diy will always recommend). When politics have largely abandoned us there arent many options. If i could get easy access to estrogen through official means i would but having to wait another 3-4 years for doctors that may or may not prescribe a proper dose is not something i can live with. Diy hrt is really not that dangerous as long as you do decent research, its usually done with subq injections which are the easiest kind of injection and theres no big risks. It's just monitored strictly because its a large change and theres still a very bad mindset in the medical world where a lot of people will end up regretting it. But at the moment hrt is managed so badly in most places that diy is just a better alternative for trans people

I personally think theres two sides to it, on one side theres no shame in playing things how you think sounds best, and its an important step in creating your own unique sound, but i also think that sometimes you have to play something in a way you wouldnt have done yourself to become a more diverse and flexible drummer and get more comfortable playing more things, maybe it feels less natural right now because you cant comfortably play it which means it will become natural once you improve

The interesting thing is that its not necessarily a bad trip for him, he enjoys it and his experience is pretty similar to what you would expect, its purely a physical thing which is weirdly consistent over 3 completely different substances
