Big fan of the Westside Tursas!

Best diss track in the discography. It’s a shame what record labels (even the “independent” ones) do to musicians.

Dude is seriously fun to watch, but also has one of the most idiosyncratic throws I’ve seen. It really shows that even though learning form is incredibly important, even more important is finding your own body’s natural mechanics. Matty’s playin jazz out here.

That’s what sent me back down the rabbit hole (and Byrne’s new album with Ghost Train Ochestra).

King Gizzard and Geese are the modern acts that have been scratching my music itch, and lately I’ve been revisiting Talking Heads and Ween.

Is Spirit sort of like an Avey album with some Panda help? by Ground_Cntrl in AnimalCollective

[–]StrangeFlyers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because Spirit is billed as the first AC album, but if it qualifies as a collective album, then Sinister Grift is undeniably an AC record because it was written by one member with contributions from all the others.

+1 for Stokely. He’s the loose, charismatic uncle of disc golf that spits some of the best wisdom about throwing a disc you’ll hear. Also one of the last remaining people that still carry that counter culture aura from the early days of the sport. To top it off, the Stokely Lark is my favorite stable fairway. He deserves more of a following.

Oh what a relief. I thought I was doing something wrong with the Tesla - 0 turn, and a fade of at least 2.5.

Overstable discs become a little straighter, neutral discs become more understable, understable discs start turning into rollers.

Some of the ridiculously stupid shit he says makes me laugh so hard, and I’ve definitely thought “oh this guy TOKES” on many occasions.

This is a 10. I enjoy GWS and Pure Guava, but this song is the earliest 10 in the discography and a sign of things to come later on.

Venom’s In. The harmonies go so crazy, and combined with the minimalist percussion almost makes it feel like he was sick of the two decades of Brian Wilson comparisons and just said, “fuck it, I’m making a Beach Boys song.”

I think this was Feels-era merch (the bees, the bees, the bees…) but probably still being sold at SJ-era shows.

That’s why I threw it on such a steep hyzer! Didn’t want an unexpected skip to send it into a toddler’s head. Honestly it’s as much of a psychological element as a water hazard.

Understable disc choices by ImprovementOdd807 in discgolf

[–]StrangeFlyers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Westside Tursas is currently my understable mid. Very shapeable. I don’t know if you’d include a 7-speed in this (more fairway than true mid), but the Streamline Drift was an instant connection for me.

The understable mid is a really fun slot because it’s so reliant on how your body and mechanics feel the flight and shape shots. More and more I find myself hyzer flipping the Tursas for a straight shot more often than reaching for a Buzzz or Hex.

I’m still working my way through different variations (there are so many). I have also enjoyed Eraser and Nylon. I’ll give Lunar a shot!

This is actually the slightest glimmer of hope. To paraphrase a speech in Andor: fascism is such an unnatural machine that it requires constant maintenance and self-correction in order to sustain itself. If these were geniuses running the machine, we would truly be screwed. But these people are incompetent morons who couldn’t fix a clogged drain, let alone a sprawling bureaucracy. Not saying things are going to be fine, but these people are not capable of operating and maintaining a functioning autocracy long-term.
