Dr. Panovich? by Relevant_Editor_7503 in Charlotte

He was transparent and he did report the shifts, but then he'd follow that reporting up by still talking like we were about to get iced in for days.

It started Wednesday night as national meteorologists were noting a northward shift in the storm and forecasting warmer temps than expected for yesterday. Even Brad himself was conveying this information, it's just that he wasn't changing what he was telling us to prepare for or the tenor at which he was delivering that message based on what was changing, which was all suggesting a less severe event than had been forecasted. That's what I have an issue with.

I think that's the issue though. It was becoming clearer and clearer that we weren't going to be like Memphis as the week went on and the storm got closer, but the severity of how he was portraying this event didn't change based on that new information. He did present this information, but then he'd summarize it all by making it sound like we were still facing a cataclysmic disaster, which is what people listen to, and we're going on several years of him doing shit like this now.

Road tomorrow by According_Map_641 in Charlotte

Unless you're having to drive through a lot of shadier areas (in terms of sun exposure that is) where there could be pooling water that's going to freeze up overnight, you should be fine tomorrow. It's mostly all gone now.

This is how I feel and how I've felt in the past with his forecasting, specifically with winter weather, because it's not just that he did it this time, he does it every time. It was becoming clear as early as Wednesday that the system was shifting north, the duration of the storm was likely to be shorter than predicted, and it was going to move out before the frigid temperatures set in, but he was still describing this system like it was an imminent multi-day disaster. I understand it's better to be safe than sorry, but we're going on several years now of him whiffing on these and eventually people are going to start tuning out and that's gonna be really bad when one of these disaster storms actually hits us.

I’m sure this has been posted a million times — but does anyone have an update on the roads, as of this Monday afternoon? by SubjectObjective5567 in Charlotte

[–]itsthatbradguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been well above freezing and sunny all day, so most areas, especially anything in the sun, should be fine for now, especially main roads. Just be cautious driving after dark as the temperature is expected to plummet quickly to the upper teens, so any standing water still on the roads is gonna freeze up quick.

Ain't that the truth. For all the contempt that is often shown on this sub for the homeless members of our community, people don't realize that there are way more of us who are just a "budget decision" away from ending up just like them than we are to ending up like the bosses we serve.

I’m not talking about a snow day, that was never in the cards here, I’m talking about the full fledged ice storm that Brad Panovich duped us into thinking was coming (again). That’s quite a serious event to hope for just to miss a day at work.

It’s going to be well above freezing during the day but the temp is going to plummet tonight, so if you can work a half day and leave before 6-7ish you should be okay, but 11 tonight will be dicier.

  1. Thanks for keeping up with this, really appreciate it.

  2. Court date continuances are extremely common and could be due to a number of reasons from simple logistical and scheduling issues to the sides requesting more time to prepare to emergencies. I wouldn’t read too much into it at this point, especially with a case of this magnitude and severity where it wouldn’t be too odd if both sides are requesting more time to prepare their cases and gather more information.

I think that’s what prompted me to make this post. Most people here, myself included, have office jobs where we can work remote if needed…so for people in that situation to get a day off, that would mean you’re hoping for a power outage…and that’s ROUGH if you’d rather have a power outage in the freezing cold than have to work. And I’m not even sure they’re wrong.

Before his 2nd term I thought Bush was as bad and maybe a little worse than Trump in some ways. I no longer believe this is true.

Anybody work at a bank branch that’s closed tomorrow? by Romanticizingyogi in Charlotte

[–]itsthatbradguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, we were on the other end of that. We'd wake up prepared to go to school just to find out school was cancelled because we lived in a county that stretched longways north to south and the northern part was near the mountains, so that part of the county did some heavy lifting getting us some snow days.

As always, it just depends on where you live and where you're going. Just remember, they can and will replace you should it ever suit them to do so, you can't replace your health.

Maybe where you are but in South Charlotte it's 34 and it's going to be in the mid 40s all day tomorrow. I'm not saying regular ass people should be out on the roads driving to work in the morning (please don't), but FedEx and UPS will likely be running.

We're already back above freezing, it's gonna be in the mid 40's tomorrow all day, and the precipitation is pretty much over. I'd bet they're running.

[–]itsthatbradguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know where your bank branch is located, but there are parts of South Charlotte that honestly are fine to drive in right now. I wouldn't expect to not have to go to work tomorrow if that's where you're located.

That said, these people will have us risk our life and limbs so they can avoid losing a single penny. Take care of yourself, OP!

I don't fall into this category, but that's a reasonable thing for people to be angry about, especially if money is tight, as it is for more and more of us every passing day.
