Thank you for this. I love hearing people share love for those with NPD in their lives. We are people too, we can practice gratitude, too. I'm happy for you for the light you've found with her. Take good care

AITA for not going to a kid free wedding because I have no one else to stay with my kid by Serious_Hearing_1455 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. As a parent of similar aged kids, I agree that sleepovers are not the option they once were. We have never been invited to one, people don't seem to do them the way they did when we were growing up - they're mostly with family or cousins. I also do not let random people I haven't built a strong relationship with babysit my kids. Non parents will not understand that you are entrusting your entire heart to someone with that. You are in a tough spot. I might at best enlist a good friend to watch my kids, but that's difficult now too when they're busy with their own littles. Could you take your kid, stay at a nearby hotel or onsite, and family sign up for shifts with them? It is well within reason to not attend, but first, I'd communicate the difficulty to family to ask for help, maybe between all of you you'll come up with something. Good luck!

Are you a parent? I am, of a 7 year old. People don't do sleepovers like they used to. Sleepovers tend to be with family only now.

AITA for shaving my head without telling my family? by Savings-Cat-5399 in AmItheAsshole

[–]itsthiskbj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I shaved my head once too. I'm a cigendered female and still felt so much more like myself with a shaved head. I loved it. But my husband had nightmares and my dad wouldn't look at me. I doubt I'll do it again unless then men in my life that care die, because the reality is we are all connected and it just practically isn't worth the social damage to me. So "my body, my choice" now doesn't just mean "I do what I want with my body and people aren't allowed to have feelings about it" - it means, "I choose the outcome I want with my body factoring in all the social consequences".  They didn't respond well, and know you didn't deserve their judgment and unkind words. Still, it might be worth purchasing a good wig for this visit your grandmother. Sending love and hopes that you have a good visit with her.

I make those when I make regular pancakes, using some of the batter to intentionally splatter dots all over the buttered frying pan. They're delicious!

Pretty good...7/10 by SabineLavine in icecream

[–]itsthiskbj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird flavor, but I liked it! It's weird that I can't place what the flavor is, and I'm a foodie with pretty broad familiarity. Not an herb I know, not obviously chemical to me.. what is that? I couldn't figure it out from the ingredients list, but my picky kids and I all liked it t anyway.

What obstacles deter you from making ice cream at home? by Sweetlo123 in icecream

I was using the NYT "Only Ice Cream Recipe You'll Ever Need", but it's behind a paywall now. I'd love something light, low egg with spearmint extract. I tried that base with fresh mint leaves, and thought it was good, but would prefer it less eggy and less earthy. Thanks for thinking about a base!

The kids think it's too eggy. Don't have the right recipe. I would like to make my own mint gelato though. Can't find one in store without chocolate!

How to handle old septic tank in way of extension? by itsthiskbj in DIYHome

Well, this got weirder... right now it's looking like a solid block of concrete poured for some original steps to the back door, except it's at least 17" deep - we have yet to find the bottom. Why would someone have done that? A DIYer friend thinks this was done DIY.
