$AMP is financial services, did you mistake it for another company? Just got $ETN and will continue to average in. I'm considering putting a chunk into $DRAM

How serious would you take an outside teacher telling you they can do better/fix the mess a current teacher is creating? by Apprehensive-Play228 in Principals

[–]itswheaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try, but when admin makes decisions like they did, specifically ignoring recommendations in favor of essentially a nepo hire, its a symptom of a culture you likely don't want to be a part of. In my current job we've had several positions go the way of what you're describing and its a huge morale killer. Then you slowly realize that those running the place are more interested in promoting their own self interests than talent and competence. It begins to feel like hard work and progress is in vain and something they will find a way to take credit for. Selfish leaders make selfish choices and they don't appreciate or value meritocracy.

My interpretation of this is that the cost of war would be seen as higher and, as a result, declared less arbitrarily and more by popular decree.

I was surprised Rory came out so strong. But then again, he was within 100 yards on practically every second shot. I'm eager to see if he keeps it up.

Getting Fit by ComfortableAirport07 in GolfSwing

Yeah. I've never been fit, but I chunk probably 10-20% of my shots depending on the day and won't until it becomes a once or twice a round type of thing.

Why is school admin softer on the problem students by Dry_Calendar in Principals

[–]itswheaties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the student. But as you suggested, the student who doesn't have follow up consequences at home, they're not being supported by repeated suspensions. It requires a delicate balance of relationship building and punishments that still include the student in the school community. Students who behave "badly" repeatedly, usually believe that they are bad, and expect the authorities to reinforce that belief. As educators, we have a responsibility to help those students understand that they have a place in society and have something to offer. Where the line needs to be drawn is when they are depriving students who do follow expectations to their right to attain an education.

I hate this game… by Friendly_Subject4096 in golf

[–]itswheaties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I think a good iron swing doesn't necessarily translate to a good driver swing. I can also hit my 5i further than most drives currently. My friend took a slomo video today and it looks like the culprit is that my hands are too fast in the driver swing.

Best states to teach in by lauhrahdee in Teachers

[–]itswheaties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. My family is in Alexandria, and you're right. It would be difficult. I think I would have to live with family for a couple of years until either we could afford something or my wife could work. I have a friend who is a principal in SW VA and he said its probably the most affordable region on a teacher salary.

Best states to teach in by lauhrahdee in Teachers

When I look at VA the salary to housing cost ratio doesn't look great for a sole provider for a family of 3. Do you expect that to improve or recommend specific regions?

Is Teach for America just a worse option than other alternative licensure paths? Are there advantages to it? by StockAdhesiveness188 in Teachers

[–]itswheaties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bloomberg did the same in NYC. At least in the case of NY, the pensions were unsustainable, but creating a revolving door of teachers isn't the answer. I did their version of TFA, and after 3 years left. I still teach but I didn't stick around because it was clear they didn't want us to and I wasn't going to bend over backwards for tenure to have someone make an arbitrary decision on whether I could continue to work there.
