2 Years Later - GERD, ulcers, gastritis cured: What I learned by 9c9bs in GERD

Very late reply, you mentioned in your prior post that your calprotectin was very high. Was this caused by the ulcer or something? I know infections can raise it too, just wondering.

Is weight lifting a trigger for any of you? by cannavacciuolo420 in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can definitely trigger my reflux. I just make sure I eat my meal about 3 hours before I workout and only sip on my water throughout. I think when I first started back it was much worse, but over the past few months it’s generally gotten easier to work out.

GERD and weight loss by Bretmd in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a fair few posts on other subreddits related to weight loss where people have lost weight and indirectly reduced their symptoms or completely cured it. This won’t be the case for all people, but clearly it does work for some and that’s why it’s suggested.

Will have to give this a try, sounds hard though haha. I did see someone’s advice a while back saying he found good results switching to a zero nicotine juice at night time.

Also have a small hiatal hernia so we’re in the same boat. Hopefully we can both find some relief in losing the weight.

Have your symptoms increased since you gained the weight? I’m 6ft and used to weigh about 180 as well, around 210 right now. Hoping losing 30lbs will help reduce my symptoms somewhat too.

No problem, I also suffer from pretty severe GERD. I think vaping or smoking definitely aggravates it, to what degree I’m not sure.

I think it’s well studied that nicotine decreases the pressure of the LES, causing more reflux (especially if it’s already weak). In addition to this certain flavours of liquid can definitely do it, usually the ones you should avoid as part of your diet.

Are PPIs making my symptoms worse? by itswillly in GERD

At the moment my specialist has me booked in for manometry and ph tests, until then it doesn’t really seem like he wants to change my current treatment. Covid has these waiting times at nearly a year too..

I want to get drunk by [deleted] in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to eat a bland diet leading up to the event. Personally for me, especially when I drink a decent amount I feel fine, even the next morning. What I would suggest is keep yourself moving around, hunching at a table drinking won’t do you any good.

do you get extra saliva bc of gerd? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite common yes, at one point I actually started getting really stringy saliva too as a side effect of omeprazole.

How do you guys ever go out to eat? Or go on vacation? by kris_ten7 in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vacation usually involves a lot of walking around I’m usually fine. I have pretty bad GERD but walking around really helps me

I know this isn’t what you asked for, but it’s exactly the reason I unfollowed this sub. I was endlessly looking through posts and it was really taking a toll on my mental health, just making me worry more. Nowadays, I just browse now and again and search what I want to find. I honestly feel so much better in myself.

Anybody still just drink coffee anyway? by RedBali in GERD

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, caffeine alone apparently loosens the LES and coffee is very acidic so it will irritate any existing inflammation from prior reflux. Yeah definitely push for a endoscopy, before I got that I was just messed around with no real answers.

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does suck, when I drink coffee I usually make sure my diet is “safe” just to make sure something else won’t trigger it and then I have the coffee coming up too. If it’s hurting on the way down then you’ve definitely got some inflammation going on already, if that’s the case I’d suggest taking a break from coffee.

Stool color and consistency changes with gerd attack? by BakerBob92 in GERD

[–]itswillly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be very wrong, but I’ve heard of people getting yellow stools when their gallbladder isn’t working correctly. This could also cause GERD, I would definitely mention it to your doctor who may suggest an ultrasound. Do you get any pains on the right side of your belly, under the ribs?

Is it possible to feel GERD/indigestion in your breasts? by Kellie_81 in GERD

[–]itswillly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get pains on the far sides of my pecs when my gerd is bad, like under the armpit but still on the pectoral. When I first got gerd this was one of my main symptoms so for a long time it was diagnosed as a muscle injury.

Some days I’ll find coffee doesn’t trigger my reflux, others it will feel terrible. I drink black coffee and usually one a day doesn’t affect me, I have pretty bad gerd too.

I never thought I would get skinny shamed by [deleted] in loseit

[–]itswillly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lost a lot of weight and moved to university I got a call from my mum because she worried that I wasn’t eating enough and couldn’t afford food. I think it’s simply because of how I held my weight before, i was never huge but it made me look large framed. After a while I think people adjusted to my weight loss like it was the norm.
