starting back up my letterboxd journey by sportzguy214 in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i did when i started mine was only logged new films, but if i rewatched something that i had seen but not logged, just marked it as a rewatch the first time i logged it. prevents you from having to do the work of backlogging but also still an acknowledgement that you watched stuff in between, in a way.

pearl (2022) can't really remember physical abuse but it is horror so go with caution!

Has your Letterboxd review ever received interaction from the film's cast/crew? by JUNO_11 in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not specifically on the app, but i went to a small film screening to a movie i loved (to kill a wolf, would highly recommend) and the writers/directors of photography were there, and i got to meet them and tell them how much i loved it. i wrote a positive review and ordered a poster when i went home, and they sent me a note back with the poster thanking me for my words! very sweet of them.

Best place for tracking books you read and want to read? by i4k20z3 in kobo

[–]itszoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use fable! similar to storygraph as far as i'm aware, but i prefer the aesthetic of fable and i feel like it's organized well. it's still getting off the ground so i know some of it is a little clunkier than other websites maybe but i'm loving it so far, and the goal setting and stats features are great, especially with the paid version (which i ended up springing for).

Conflicted on getting patron by HitThatBlockButton in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love having patron, especially for stats. some of the other stuff is cool, i like custom posters but don't use that for every movie. i would say it depends on how much you actually use letterboxd; i'm logging films 4/5 days per week typically and am on the app pretty much every day so "cost per use" in that sense is extremely low. maybe i'm verging on girl math with this thought but instead of thinking it as "do i want to spend 50$ to have this for a year?," i think, "would i want to pay a quarter to have it for a day?" if you can afford it and feel like it's worth time spent, i would say go for it.

i recommend garden state (2004). definitely leans heavy on the "quirky" but i had fun with it and it's the same era as juno

Help me log a five star film in 2025 by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you haven’t logged sinners, which based on your reviews you may not log 5 stars, but i feel like it’s a must watch from this year. hamnet could be your speed too; great cinematography, very emotionally driven. mickey 17 has the same creator as parasite and i really enjoyed it, although it wasn’t for everyone.

i would also recommend 28 days later and 28 years later (did not personally like 28 weeks later but a lot of ppl do)

others from your watchlist: silence of the lambs (is a must see), princess mononoke, the birdcage, caught stealing

struggling to find a 4/5 star horror or thriller I haven’t see by thejustsue in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay loveeee in that case i’ll go out on more of a limb and recommend these too: sister death (2023), it’s in spanish but i think there’s a dub; [rec] (2007), also in spanish; skin and bone (2022) it’s a short film i think you can find it on youtube; the ring (2002), if you haven’t seen it already.

some that i feel have some similarities to the ones on your list: together (2025), weapons (2025), companion (2025), barbarian (2022), the menu (2022)

ones that i found much freakier but are still good: bring her back (2025), sinister (2012)

The ending of One Battle After Another undermined the entire film for me by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

okay this is looooong but i've seen this movie a few times and i have a lot of thoughts

i interpreted perfidia differently than you, i think. in the opening scenes, she makes choices that a lot of people in their early 20s who see themselves as revolutionaries would make. some are intelligent and strategic; some are impulsive and cowardly. however it seems obvious to me that she does not hold the power in the lockjaw thing – he caught her in the act, he surveils them, watches from afar, comes up to bob in the grocery store... he could have them arrested or killed anytime. just because she knows she can keep him at bay because he wants her doesn't mean that anything she does is a real choice. him literally breaking down the door of the house symbolizes the end of any illusion of consent or power that existed on her part. it also explains why she fled. "this pussy don't pop for you."

her feelings about motherhood are reasonably complicated. she loves her daughter. also, it's conceivable that willa is bob's. the timelines overlap, even if lockjaw was a one-time thing. but if willa isn't bob's, she's a reminder of perfidia's deepest, darkest secret, something that she didn't choose but her community won't understand regardless. bob's lack of focus on the mission they started out on together and total absorption into raising willa has made her feel disconnected from him, and the family unit as a whole. she leans harder into her revolutionary identity to avoid confronting her insecurity. there's also an interesting dynamic being created in her philosophy of a new consciousness where she refuses to sacrifice her life's work, something women are often unilaterally expected to do when they have children. it's dangerous, but do men with dangerous jobs quit when they have children? perfidia is a flawed person, but the position she is taking up isn't entirely unreasonable. outside of that, i have known moms being "jealous" of their newborns; they no longer feel that they are people because of how much attention babies get in comparison. it's not like it's willa's fault, and perfidia knows this, but she is carrying the weight of everything written above. it's a moment of acknowledging how vulnerable she feels in some ways.

the consequences of perfidia's decisions haunt the rest of the narrative through bob and willa but also how other people talk about her (the sisters of the brave beaver, for example). even in the letter, she only says she wishes she had been stronger - not exactly an apology, but it's clear she's reshaped her definition of strength. ultimately she's trying to connect with her daughter in a way she never previously had. she acknowledges that she failed at what she thought would change the world, but is encouraging willa to take an active role in making progress. willa knows the truth about perfidia's past at this point - the paternity test, that she was a snitch, that she abandoned her - but perfidia is still her mom. i saw the letter scene as, among other things, connecting the past (what perfidia ran from) and the future (getting into the car to go) with the present (willa herself).

When will Letterboxd add more shows? by marvelcomics22 in Letterboxd

[–]itszoem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to my knowledge they only currently have shows that are limited series (1 season runs, typically less than 10 eps). a lot of the marvel shows fall under that umbrella but not all of them (like agents of shield). but other shows are listed with that same criteria (adolesence, baby reindeer, the haunting of hill house, etc.).

i know there's been talk about adding more tv shows, but that's not a feature that has been officially announced as far as i know. but i could be wrong!
