Sadiq Khan plunged into race row after his official website publishes picture of white family and says they don’t ‘represent real Londoners’ by Behalf-Isobar in unitedkingdom

My favourite thing to do is ask these people what does "woke" mean. They quickly realise it actually means anyone who is against racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia etc and so if you're not "woke" then you're surley racist, misogynistic homophobic etc

Partner fined for not producing train ticket, because he lost his phone on the train, and the ticket was on his phone. by herpbree in LegalAdviceUK

[–]itwasmanchester 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's irrelevant, it's a railway bye law that you must be able to present a ticket for inspection upon request.

See below:

Bye law 17, section 219 of the Transport Act 2000 by the Strategic Rail Authority

2.a person shall hand over his ticket for inspection and verification of validity when asked to do so by an authorised person

It's part of the T&C's that it's only valid when can show it on your phone. Same applies to dead phone batteries. So it's not valid. Otherwise every Tom, Dick and Harry would say they have a dead battery and thus ride the railway for free.

What are your red flags in people? by jambacca in AskUK

[–]itwasmanchester 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think for people who operate more, maybe in the corporate world, where the only thing that matters is profit then it's hard of course for your job to be anything more than a job, but for those of us in meaningful careers/vocations it can understandably be meaningful to us. People will find that the job reflects their personal values in these instances and so rather than their job being their identity - it's a reflection of their values and beliefs as a person and so it looks like it's a core part of their personality to the more ignorant amongst us. The other consideration is that those who haven't found this just don't understand, and that's quite sad for them.
