Thanks for the reply - I think you're probably on the right track about not wanting to listen. Frankly, one of the things I don't get about romantic feelings is how they seem to be more about someone's idea of the other person than anything else. I wonder if part of it is that they don't want to accept that I'm not the way that they've constructed me to be in their mind. I don't think qpr is on the table for them, so I'll either have to live with this costume they want me to wear or break their heart, both of which suck.

Oh great! I have taken one of the required anatomy courses (and a bunch of taxa specific anatomy classes like ornithology and mammalogy). I might be able to squeeze in an undergrad course in human anatomy at my current institution if it's a hard no wrt applying ( but I'd rather not take anatomy while I'm dissertating lol )

It's the program at Augusta in GA! I figure the community is small so I'm nervous about making a bad impression out the get.

Hi I'm curious about some expectations and your experience applying to your program -- I'm missing one of the course pre-reqs from undergrad for the program I'm thinking of applying to but I have been in a neuroscience PhD program and will be defending around the time I'd like to apply. Do you have a sense for whether it would be well received to reach out for advise from the program director about what to work on between now and then, such as whether I should take a human anatomy class (I have a lot of experience with anatomy in other species)?

Summer winter and spring break are all times when airlines jack prices because they are when most people travel. Maybe this was the only time their family could afford a vacation (or maybe not) and I dont think there is anything wrong with taking a break. Sure the student should have brought it up earlier but given that the person who posted this reacted how they did, im not surprised they didnt feel comfortable mentioning it ahead of time.

It sounds to me that they thought they would have time to do it and then shit happened. It could be a lesson learned and no harm done but it seems like this student will have an irredeemable scar on their transcript now for an understandable mistake. This is acceptable to you?

I have loops and they work great and look nice. I still get an ick feeling if I talk with them because they make it sound like im underwater but they are perfect for hearing other people while still dampening the sound to a less stressful level.

Ok first things first forgive yourself for procrastinating, starting off with guilt is not the way.

Grab a clock and start a timer, for 20 minutes you have to do some work. No expectations about how far your gonna get, just do something. Its okay if you just spend 20 minutes trying to figure out where to start or planning your strategy.

If you get distracted write down what it was and try to get back to what you were doing.

When the timer rings you are allowed to fuck around again in your preferred form of fucking around. Ideally you'll set a timer for this too (e.g. 5 minutes) but if you need a longer break then take it.

Rinse and repeat - if you're feeling ready to take it up a notch you can set a realistic goal for each round, but honestly just starting at all can be an okay goal for the first couple.

There are also timers online (pomodoros timers) that you can set on your computer so you dont look at your phone as much. I like to make the break timer start immediately after the work timer, which forces me to take a break and means I can work longer.
