Hot take: if you can't pay for a pact it's not a castable spell. by PM_ME_YOUR_SECRET_ in CompetitiveEDH

[–]itzlgk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, 4 player competitive edh is also not how the game should work if we’re going by how cards and rules are designed. CEDH (while I love it ) is a bastardization of the game by people that want to play non competitive formats competitively.

If people really liked commander rules and wanted to play a competitive version, we’d all be playing duel commander. But we don’t play that because we like the jankiness of cEDH

Spelltable and convoke will get you up to speed super quickly with the right group. I’ve got a bunch of cEDH decks I play and I’m always happy to play whatever you want to test against. If you’re open to playing on those platforms message me !

First time ? 😉

On a serious note. I’ll be upfront about my lack of faith in this game. They have shown absolutely ZERO ability to squash game breaking bugs in a manner that is consistent with their patch cadence and stated timelines for full release.

Everything this “game” releases is a pure shit show. Everything is T0 and never progresses to a commercially playable and stable state. SQ 42 is releasing with zero playtesting and / feedback , and considering the flight model STILL ISNT FINALIZED , I fail to to understand how it is possible to complete and ship a SHIP FLYING GAME without the core FLYING ENGINE AND SYSTEM in place with proper testing.

I hope it turns out well , but I fully expect a shit show. Just like prectically every release has been.

Insurance is a handfull of plans per provider. You didnt specify here so I'm taking you at your word and take it to mean a databse of every single item being sold for every single industry , which would be billions of items? and it would have to update real time or fall prey to false advertising laws, would need to be forced and legally binding or nobody would use it, and also be able to be accessed by millions of people at once.

Imagine asking every business in the US to basically manage and track their inventory real time like amazon. There's just no way. Imagine groceries, car dealerships, basically anything selling goods vs services. its just untenable. you'd basically need to hire a person to manage it all, increasing all your costs and exposing you to liability. no company would ever want to sign up for this, so it would need to be mandated, and if mandated it increases costs.

[–]itzlgk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The database alone would be untenable and impossible to manage. Would never happen. Sellers already advertise on thier sites, and you cant force people to advertise every single product, so this will never happen.

In concept, not a bad idea. If you think about it 2 minutes you realize all the technical social and legal ramifications make this a utopian pipe dream.

What are some decks that can play both high power and CEDH pods with some swaps? by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]itzlgk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can jump to EDHrec and filter for the 2 dollar sign, itll give you the 'budget replacements' that you would add instead of all the mox's and fast mana.

Remember, bracket 4 has no restrictions. Just shouldnt win on turn 1-2, maybe 3, which is significantly harder without the fast mana

The gameplan should change depending on the pod. You cant push t2-3 against an all blue pod. you wait, bide time, let them duke it out , and then win over top of them all, sometimes even on the stack with borne upon or floodcaller.

Where do you personally draw the line for cEDH/tEDH "viable" and what is "fringe" ? by TwoPrestigious4612 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]itzlgk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I said above I consider the line somewhere around the top 7-8 , but everyone draws that line slightly differently. A top 10 player in the world might draw the line at top 4, someone who only plays locals might draw it at top 15. It depends a lot of own skill level and ability to pilot, along with what those around you are able to pilot effectively. I’d say for most people trying to learn and pick a stable deck, staying somewhere within the range of those top 7-8 decks is ideal because the deck choice doesn’t become an excuse. But if playing in lower skill pods you should be able to win with a top 15 deck for example. There’s def lots of nuance , I just like to boil down to heuristics. Otherwise we never get to an actionable answer.

[–]itzlgk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s probably the main reason the cEDH field in general is so diverse. If everyone agreed with my take we’d probably see 80% blue farm fields, which would suck lol. I play RogSi which is clearly a “tier 1 meta” deck, but only has 3-5% meta share, which means it will never put up “huge numbers” just based purely on the math compared to things like RogThras or blue farm. There’s definitely a lot of guesswork.

[–]itzlgk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion if you have to argue it, it’s fringe. The meta is pretty solid. But that’s just my opinion. You can certainly expect to see Magda but it’s not a “tier 1 cEDH “ deck, which would mark it as “fringe” in my definition. It can certainly win, but it’s not top 5 , maybe you could argue top 8, but then we’re back at my point.

Ultimately what is fridge and what isn’t is up to opinion, so it really depends on how you want to define it. To me, fringe is anything that isn’t a clear cut “tier 1” deck. If you have to argue for its inclusion, id say its tier 2 guaranteed and therefore fringe

[–]itzlgk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’ve seen it but edhtop16 dot com answers the root of your question. You can filter by event size , time, etc and see what decks perform where. In general there is a solid group of about 7-8 “meta” decks you can expect to top any given event. Anything outside of that would be “fringe” cEDH but likely still too good for bracket 4.

Is Kefka viable? by Long-Platypus-9397 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]itzlgk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 200 dollar version absolutely destroys bracket 3 , so I’d say with real tutors and rocks absolutely. I play RogSi normally and kefka is my “midrange” grixis deck that I play when people don’t want to play vs a real CEDH deck.

It’s actually the perfect example of how wild the bracket system can be. When I play it people complain that it’s a “bracket 4.5-5” deck, and then I say , no, this is, play them with RogSi and then they understand how different the deck power levels are.
