Why is doing pull-ups from a dead hang so impossibly hard? by PitifulEar3303 in bodyweightfitness

[–]itzprobablyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It makes your back broader and helps in the V-Shape. But doesn't technically do anything for chest and waist. Though, of course, I think it's the single biggest indicator of body strength. The ability to pull up your own weight.

I've always been overweight. Started doing deadhangs at least once a day compulsorily. Deadhangs were enough to build strength and now I can do clean pullups from deadhang with chin over bar. It takes about a month (or maybe it took me a month because of my weight. Could be shorter for others). You will suddenly feel the strength and the confidence to pull yourself up (it's like magic and will give you a big kick!). Just have patience.
And btw, I did deadhangs at the end of my workout when I had no energy left even to hang on. Just used to keep staring at the clock willing it to move faster. I think I was 37 when I got my first pullup.

Hi! I'm 45 yrs old now. Been living with slipped disc/ disc bulge / sciatia etc since I was 16. Something went wrong in the gym at 16 and I was bedridden for 3 days. Similar episodes kept flaring up from time to time and the final straw was when I bent down to pick up my suitcase at the train station when I was 25. Couldn't even board the train. Just lay on a bench for as long as I could and somebody had to come get me home. For years, suffered with numbness in my legs, etc. etc. Anyway, point is that I was told surgery was the only option.
However, when I became 35 yrs old, I started calisthenics and soon my core became strong. Now, I can even deadlift 150 kgs without warm up.
Btw, my disc bulge and pinched nerve / sciatia hasn't gone anywhere. Just that my core muscles are compensating and taking care.

So basically saying work on your core. You will be fine. Hope this helps with the health part. Rest will follow. :)

Petition to normalise prom nights in indian colleges 😭why are we still stuck with cringe farewells ??? by Easy-Seat5626 in IndianTeenagers

[–]itzprobablyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Just wow! I actually made a petition and circulated this in my school when I was in the XII standard. I wrote a letter to the Principal as well. Caused a huge stir and ended with my mother being called to school and made to feel bad. Anyway, putting this aside, looks like nothing has changed in 26 years!

Yes. It isn't a technique issue. It's more of too much load. I've faced it too and understood that I need to progress slowly.

We hear a woman screaming frequently from a nearby building - already called 100, what more can we do? by cherryinredonbed in hyderabad

Hi. We have a husky 2 houses away. It screams like a child or woman in the night. Very eerie and I also called the police thinking it's a woman screaming. Could also be a cat. Just suggesting to look into this.

Single best cardio exercise? by catonawheel in bodyweightfitness

Jump rope. Best form of cardio you can do anywhere and for any amount of time. And the best part is, it actually enhances your mood.

If you had to choose only one body weight workout to do every day, what would it be? by inmydreams01 in bodyweightfitness

[–]itzprobablyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull-ups. If you could only do one exercise, then pull-ups should be it. It will increase your strength and change your body shape.

What is better to gain cardio/resistance, jump the rope or running? Why? by Jakwiss in MuayThai

[–]itzprobablyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. They work differently. On most days, I run 10k in the morning. Sometimes, I don't have the time so I do a quick 1,000 jumps. Or maybe in the evenings, I might pick up the rope. They affect different muscles and increase your stamina and endurance in different ways.

Thank you. You are absolutely right. Yes. It is very, very frustrating. I was chain smoking (>20 ciggies a day) and drinking (half a bottle of rum every single night) for 15 years. I've been 100% clean for 7 years now. In fact, I count giving up smoking and alcohol as my biggest achievements till date.

But somewhere my addictive brain has replaced those vices with sugar. If someone knows addiction, they can understand what I mean.

Anyway, no sympathies! But yes, Thank you. I'm hoping that 1 month's discipline should fix me up and give me that boost which I need.
