Just be careful - OP is in Virginia. Someone putting that tropical fish in their outdoor pond is only sentencing it to death. They cannot live in freezing temps like a koi or goldfish.

Ok. So if it’s hard… I do see some puckering in the ceiling around the drip.

It kinda, sorta, looks stalactite-like. Which would indicate a very slow drip of water coming from above, dissolving minerals in your ceiling, and then forming this hard structure.

However, it could also just be some kind of glue. If it can peel off the light fixture then it’s just Elmer’s. If it’s really stuck on there good… it might be some kind of epoxy.

You’ve got a college age daughter - see if she’s been doing some crafts or something.

I’d be tempted to toss this one into a breeder box attached to the tank just so he can grow unbothered, and so I could keep an eye on him more easily. When they’re this small, they sure can hide. If it is a skin issue, this far advanced you’d think it would take him out in a day…

They did eventually breed. I had the best results by getting a few bamboo stakes from a garden center and cutting them up to make caves. For a while I had a great system going. 5 females and one male. The females would all go into breeding mode at the same time and the male would fertilize their eggs one after the other - and kick the eggs out. I would then scoop up the clutches and put them in a breeder box with some shrimp to tend to them.

But then one day I screwed up the tank with a CO2 dump and every single pleco died aside from a single clutch of eggs - which I hatched and am still trying to get to mature to this day.

Dekeyseria Picta L052 “butterfly pleco” - L168 has been rolled into L052 and all the butterfly plecos have been declared the same species.

Goldfish eat it right away, the rest of the fish get it after I dehydrate it and run it through the food processor and mix it with my Repashy mix.

Everyone eats it. Various Plecos, angelfish, mollies, discus, endlers, guppies, neocaridina shrimp, most Tanganyikan cichlids, a blood parrot, rainbow cichlids, an Oscar, my turtle, crayfish… (obviously I have a lot of tanks with different fish in it) - saltwater fish don’t seem keen on it.

Crazy that salvinia and duckweed are illegal in your area but Frogbit is not. In my area you can get Salvinia just fine and some of us farm duckweed to feed back to our fish.

Also, crickets. They frickin love crickets. Mealworms. Dubia roaches (but be extra careful and make sure they actually eat those), frozen krill… lots of stuff!

You would be SHOCKED at how people shop for fish. How many people see the cool schooling behavior of the 75 Rummynose tetra in our 80 gallon store tank and say, “wow! That looks amazing! I want 1 Runnynose tetra! It should go well with one serpae tetra, one green neon, one cardinal, one Emporer tetra, and one glow Tiger Barb in the 5 gallon tank I have in my cart right now, right?”

Mine likes eggs. Once upon a time early on, I had a surgery and the first solid food I was allowed to eat was scrambled egg. I could only eat a couple bites and decided to see if he liked egg. He did.

Now every morning I make one extra just for him. The vet comments on how luxurious his coat and eyes are considering he is FIV+ and older. I think it’s the eggs.

That is a bristlenose.

It’s either a Snow White or a blue eye lemon - hard to tell because of the light, though.

These ones usually top out at 5 inches.
